I would have to go with a mix MP3 CD of my favortite english bands (how fitting, huh ) and those bands include, The arctic monkeys, The rolling Stones, Coldplay and Oasis
I'm an old fart, so it's going to be big band music from the 30s and 40s and real Dixieland with Eddie Condon's Allstars in the lead. Did I mention I was a old fart?

I have several I can do this with, but the first one that came to mind was Def Leppard's "High n' Dry," from before they went pop. (Not that they were death metal before or anything- they just had a good, earthy hard rock sound)
Queen's "A Kind of Magic" (aka "The Highlander Soundtrack + 1 tune from Iron Eagle") also fits the bill.
I have a bunch of burned CD's but an actual store bought album goes to either Springsteen's Greatest Hits or Born to Run. I could listen to She's the One and Jungleland over and over again and never get tired. I think it has something to do with "They met 'neath the giant Exxon sign that gives this fair city light".

But there's no love ballad lyric like in Springsteen's Thunder Road:
"You aint a beauty, but hey you're alright"

which has to be one of my all-time favorites
Jungleland is kind of a ballad if you listen to the lyrics.
Barefoot girl sitting on the hood of a Dodge
Drinking warm beer in the soft summer rain
The Rat pulls into town, rolls up his pants
Together they take a stab at romance
And disappear down Flamingo Lane
and then:
Inside the backstreet girls are dancing
To the records that the DJ plays
Lonely-hearted lovers
Struggle in dark corners
My one friend and myself love classic Boss songs because we can relate to them. We've both worked hard for most eveything we have and want to get away from the life we live now but feel like we can't and won't. It actually gets me a little emotional listening to and reading his lyrics.
Funny you should ask!
May 1st it will be RUSH's new CD: Snakes & Arrows
CAN'T WAIT!!!
Speaking of Rush, I keep hearing this one song off that album, but I can't remember what it's called. All I know is that it freakin' rocks! If every other song is this good, I need their new one.
