This morning, mexican MCO forum members, along with about 25 other MINIs and enthusiasts got together for a group drive to the Mexican Concours D'Elegance, an annual Classic Car show/competition near Mexico City.

The show was a huge event, drawing a record breaking 10,000 visitors this year on opening day.

Mexican MINI Club members were treated to free admission and a BMW-sponsored "Oktoberfest" style lunch, with beer and Bratwurst a-plenty!

A few pics below, more to come..

Believe it or not, the wheels on the Dark Silver "S" behind mine are actually 19"s !!

Also, word is that this dude's car is Dyno'd at over 200 hp. I don't remember the make of his wheels but I'll ask him at the next meet...

19"s!!!!!!!!!
I bet they feel every bump. Worth it though and with 200bhp it doesn't just look the part. I am very jealous.
Thanks Calvin.

I actually drove behind the Mini with the 19" rims. We had to go through several big speed bumps. He did something to that suspension because the car barely moved when he went over the bumps.

He had to maneuver over the bumps going almost sideways but it never rubbed.

You should see the tires. I could never read the sidewall height but it was at most 30.

If someone "teaches me" how to post the pictures, I took a couple of classic Minis I´d gladly share.

The sad thing is that pictures hide the real quality of the classic cars. Having visited some classic car shows in the US and in Mexico, I can tell you that very few of these cars really matched the museum condition you get to see on the US cars... but at least they make the effort

Mexmini,

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Many of the classics in the US are over-restored garage cases that never are driven on the streets. What a shame. A car is meant to be driven. If the folks in DF use their 'Vettes, Jags and Healeys then they are the real winners over some of the concours snobs we have here at home. To me at least, there should be points deducted for the better than factory restoration, and nothing deducted for a little road dust.

A frustrated car show junkie

I agree MGCMan, but the sad thing is that they actually don´t drive the cars. Except for classic mustangs you rarely see any of these cars on the streets.

I also never expect to see a classic car looking better that it looked when new, but when you see the paint rusted and scratched (on a restored car of course) then the quality kind of goes down.

Anyway, the good thing is that pictures hide all these things and do make honor to the cars.

Another difference is probably in the US it is harder to see classic european cars, even though the most beautiful classic cars (in my opinion) are the American cars from the golden times (40s to 60s).

I still wonder what happened to those great American cars with awesome, rich interiors and beautiful designs.
