ok sooo i have one question...whats up with the rude, stuckup, and snobby MINI owners/motorist/drivers. on my way through traffic today i was next to a beautiful black MINI Cooper (and the driver wasn't to bad looking either lol) must have been a 2002/2004, and i smiled and i waived, and she looked at me like i was crazy!!!!! I thought that we were susposed to be all happy and excited when you see a fellow motorist...Lol well have a good weekend every one...

It's because the niche/enthusiast buyers are starting to be phased out by the 'ohh!!!! its so cute, I want one!' buyers. So those who bought he car just because they liked the look, but don't give a hoot about the heritage are the ones that are killing the wave.

You see them everywhere, Tommy. Not everyone who has the smarts to buy a MINI does it for the same reason as we Enthusiasts.

Keep waving to them, maybe it'll catch on after they receive enough smiles and waves.

I don't stop because about one of every three times, I get a wave back. And once in a while, I get a REALLY enthusiastic wave back and that's REALLY nice.

It's also great when your getting ready for the wave, and they wave to you first.

Don't give up

My wife and I have had the same experience but we keep on waving any way. At the very least it makes the other MINI driver wonder what the heck you're up to.

The wave was one of the things that attracted me. Glad to report that in SE VA the wave is still alive and well. I'd say I get 3 out of 4 on average.

My problem is that I sometimes see another MINI and go to wave, but realize that they can't see me because I have the windows up and my tint is to dark for them to see me wave. The other is that I am driving to spiritedly and see another MINI in the corner of my eye and can't react fast enough.

the wave

If you think MINI cooper drivers are wave people

Take a ride in a JEEP Wrangler for a day

We have a 95 Jeep Wrangler, your hand gets tired ..I have never passed another Wrangler that did not wave

Here in Akron, I'd say I still get 9 out of 10 waves! Although, I may always be seeing the same MINIs.

But yeah, I was pulling into Starbuck's (go figure) and there was this young guy in a beautiful DS/B and he looked RIGHT at me, our cars passed each other. I was waving, and he turned his head away!

I do realize though that sometimes, another driver is distracted. For instance, I was looking through something at a stoplight, and I peaked my head up just in time to see a turning MCS. I was too late for wave contact. So I beeped. Maybe they heard the beep...

These days, since moving to Indy, I get less than 20% return for my waves. Yes, it does get frustrating, but I do it anyway. It's what we do!

less than 20% -- 1 for 5 ?!?!

That's a shame -- in Charlotte, NC, I'm still getting 9 out of 10

Save the Wave!

My wife was driving the mini around Montreal this week (just picked it up last Dec.) and was all surprised when three other MCS caught up to her and shared the road for a while, splitting off and waving as they all got off their respective exits. Cant wait for the MOT cruise up Mt Washington.

It's hard for me to get to enthusiastic about waving to, or being waved at, other Mini drivers. First, cuz it's rather a mutual congratulations thing. Second, this is Los Angeles and there are so many Minis that you can't go a mile without seeing one (or more).

Even worse, I can remember a time when Saturn drivers waved at each other.

I don't want to do anything that Saturn drivers do.

Boy, it sure is a good thing that nobody around here is...

... overly judgemental when it comes to other Mini drivers.

Hey - let's not go there.

I hated that car, but more than anything I hated that it just wouldn't die - thereby forcing the new car issue. 14 years and 300,000kms later, I gave it to my cousin when I took possession of my MINI (or did my MINI take possession of me?). I think she's still chugging along somewhere, resisting dents and failing emissions tests.

Here in the metro NYC area, waving is essentially dead. I will, however, flash my brights at a MINI when I see one. Occasionally, I get a return flash, or a wave, or smile when we're close enough. Most of the time, however, it's just the 'stare straight ahead because I'm so wrapped up in my own complicated life' (non-)reaction.

A coupla times a few months ago, I saw an S with a NAM sticker in the back window on a local highway (Belt Pkwy), and posted here twice about it. Never got a response. Of course, if s/he doesn't look at the board anymore, I can understand it.

It's a rare event when I see a MINI where I am that I've been feeling like an orphan looking for his lost parents. So when I do see one, I take the time to at least say hi!

Drove into PA today, where I waved to 3 other MINI's, but they didn't wave back :-( I won't be discouraged though, I'll keep waving!

im still not used to the headlights of a mini..xO maybe i should just sit infront of my car and stare at it till i become blind..xP
but by the time i notice it's a mini..it's already passing me and it's too late for me to react with the highbeams or foglights..maybe i should honk..haha

i get about 75% waves back..but recently..they dont look at me at all..i still try to wave tho. =]
