1998 Saturn SC2 here...

1998 SC2m DkGreen with 102K under its belt here! Waving to other Saturn owners was common back in the early Saturn era (1991 to 1995 or thereabout), before Saturn Corp went and ruined the styling of the sedans. Luckily the coupe wasn't as badly affected though...

In keeping with my interest in cars with "personality" (which is why I brought Saturn in the first place), I'm looking to MINI as my next car.

I had a '95 SL. I knew I wasn't going to get another one a year later when I saw the restyle.

Own a 2005 Saturn Quad Coupe & a 2003 MC. The Saturn is a VERY good Car. This is our 2nd Saturn. We love our MINI. When we first bought the MINI other Mini owners always waved. Now rarely do we get a wave. The novelty of the Mini has ,in my opinion, diminished. I believe the majority of Mini owners in the USA are not members of NAM. They are Car owners rather than Car Enthusiasts. Although, we are Members of NAM, our Cars are important to us for Reliable & Safe Transportation. So both are cared for with Equal TLC.

Not surprising--Saturn owners/drivers, especially in the 1st generation era (1991 to 1994) were more likely to be car enthusiasts than mere car owners, and more willing to take chance on a brand new car company and their cars. It really help that the cars were well designed, both mechnically and stylish-wise., and fun to drive!

Hence it's not surprising Saturn drivers, esp those who got the 1st generation of Saturn, might be more likely to gravitate to MINI, like me.

I thought it was a cool lift of the index finger with the wrangler's, my sister has one and your right, every jeep we passed raised their index finger to wave.

In my area, I get a lot of "who are you waving at me" looks, my guess is they didn't buy the mini new and there for don't know "motoring ethics" , doesn't stop me though

Those who don't wave are bad mini owners. We are fun people who like a car that's fun to drive. Hooray for those of us who wave. Keep on doing it and maybe more will start.

Doesn't that first gen go through '95? My '95 had the original body style. The rounded restyle was for the '96 model year.

Heh... I'm another one. Driving a 2000 SL1 until I get my MINI next year. In six years of ownership the only problem I've had with the car was this past winter when the intake manifold gasket had a slight leak that caused a rough idle. Good cars overall for daily drivers - boring though. GM is doing some interesting things with the brand now that they are bringing over Opels re-branded as Saturns.

I'll be wavin' in '08!!!! I did wave and honk at a GP one time, but they wouldn't look at me.

I waved at a pepper white Cooper that I pulled alongside at the light. The nice lady driving it smiled, and waved back. She seemed a *little* unsure about the whole thing though.

Yeah, you're probably right--the exact years are a bit fuzzy to me....

... you're also talking about some of the same folks who have responded to this thread. If a phrase like, "Those who don't wave are bad mini owners" isn't rude it certaily is snobby.

Like I said, it's pretty ironic, isn't it?

what it is about

tommy,

forgive me if someone already brought this up as i did not read the complete thread.

It is not about what other people do but what you do. Do not stop being fun, nice, or goofy because someone does not get it. It is about being the person you want to be, we are individuals and i think some people are locked away even in an open meadow, keep on keep'n on being the person you want to be and some people, me included will thank you for it regardless of whether even mini has programed us through marketing to dig it!

I love peopel who are out there being themselves and having great days because of it!

I'll add my household to this list. Owned 2 Saturns ('96-2002), now (since they came out) 2 MINIs.

Hint...look for signs of "personal mods"...vanity plate, expensive fogs, custom wheels, stickers, stubbies, etc...definite clues to whether they will love your Mini as much as they do theirs...

Or you're being sarcastic, right?
