3 years 36,000 mile maint.
So I'm about 5k miles away from my 2nd scheduled maintence the the 25k one, as of October my car will be 3 years old. So I basically lose my 3rd scheduled maintence if I don't take it in by Oct of 07 even though the car won't even be close to needing its next maintence.

Im in the same boat as you. I have an 04 MCS, 3 year/36k warrenty is up March 1st. I only have about 31K miles. I'm still debating weather or not to shell out the $500 bucks for the extended warrenty. garrr it stinks having to make this decision.

MINI bets that some owners will not reach the 36K mile mark by the end of the first three years, thereby, losing that last covered maintenance stop.
This happened to us with the wife's '02 MC. By the time the car was 3 years old, it had no more than 29K miles, so we effectively lost the third year covered maintenance stop.
I want to clarify that what dealers offer to owners in this situation is not an Ëxtended warranty"but a discounted one time use service stop. That's all.

Also, my suggestion is to get as much as you can out of the "25k mile" service stop. We did. We got new brake pads, new rotors, CVT transmission oil changed, engine oil, filter, engine coolant and a host of other items.
Make sure to get all of these even if your original brake pads and rotors still hold. You paid for this coverage when you first bought the car, so USE IT!

Ummm, that would be nice to use it, but even at 50,000 miles, my dealer checked my rotors and brake pads and they were STILL WITHIN SPEC for being "GOOD." In other words, they said, "Sorry, we won't replace your brake pads or rotors because they are still thick enough... we only replace them if they are down to X mm" (I forget what "X" was).
So, C4, how did you manage to get FREE REPLACEMENT ROTORS and BRAKE PADS at such low mileage? Do you have a lead braking foot and wore them all down below useable spec? Or is your dealer just the best or something that the rules did not apply to you?

The funny thing is that the dealer went ahead and replaced them without me asking first. I guess it all depends on the dealer but the truth is, you already paid for brake pad, rotors, etc replacements when you first bought the car. Some dealers are real ****** when it comes to this, but mine has been accomodating.
Its my wife's car. She drives fast (Its a CVT) but she doesn't ride the brake pedal. One thing I can tell you though, is that those early 2002 CVTs had incredibly powerful brakes. Every time I drive her car, when braking you feel like you are going to go thru the windshield! True, the CVT does provide a lot of engine braking effect, but those early MINI brakes were something else.
My '04 MCS and now '05 MCS have great brakes but not as strong as in her '02 CVT.
My '05 MCS is quickly approaching the 25K mile service. I'll report back on what was I able to get out from them.
