ice question

so im living in san antoinio at the moment and the weather is crazy ice all over the place including my car last night i spent a good 2 hrs removing 1/2 an inch of ice that incased my whole car litterally i could not even open any of the doors they were sealed shut so my question is is it a good thing to break the ice off my car and run it for a while each night before i go to bed

That's what I'm doing. I'm just letting it thaw out on its own.

Well up here in Canada... we don't do that.

Though the amount of ice you got is not 'normal' weather. If it stays cold what you may find is that by running it, you are melting some ice, water is running down into the cracks, and then freezing overnight where it landed.. This can do more damage. (IE. Vacuum door lock system of a 96 golf) pulled the handle and broke the vacuum system... not fun.

2 yrs ago, we got snow, all that was showing from my mini was the antenna... cleared the driveway, and got in a drove it just fine.

SIDENOTE. I do notice that in reall cold mornings. -10oC and lower, if it is not warmed up, for 5 min, it stalls at the 2nd stop sign from my house. aprx. 200M

It's starting to melt now - just let it melt off. Can't go anywhere because the interstates are all closed, but it's going to cool down again tonight. The three day weekend has turned into a 5 day weekend! Maybe 6 day after tomorrow....

I would only remove what is necessary and wait for the weather to pass. Once it warms up you can get the remaining off of there so it doesnt blow off on the freeway.

Let it melt--besides, the last thing you want to do is run it for a little while each night. I don't run my cars unless I can get them fully warmed up to burn out the condensation! Fortunately that's easy in my case--it's 10 miles to anywhere, including the grocery store.
