I was waxing the black top of my Cooper S and noticed near the front windscreen a small area of strangeness. It looks like the paint was not sprayed thick enough under the clearcoat. There is a bit of an orange or red colour(primer) showing in bright sun. I wonder if its worth bringing it to the dealer and have them respray the top. I would have not noticed if it wasn't for the bright sun that doesn't shine in Chicago that often!!

If it were me, it would drive me crazy knowing its there. I'd take it to the dealer the next time you're around. While your car is under warranty, get it done. If you're buying a new car, you're not paying for defects, no matter how small, in my opinion. Put your warranty to use, and ask for it to be repainted.
Cheers,

You know... I have weirdness by my fuel filler cap.... it's like a giant swirlie, but it's just that one spot, and the clear coat appears perfect....

I totally agree with the MadMan -- I am totally ok with anything that I do not know about! But just knowing something is there would weigh on my mind until I did something about it.

You have nothing to loose )but a little time) in taking it in ! so unless your MINI dealer is a 3 hour drive away, I'd say, take a relaxed day and make the appointment and go over and drink their coffee!

I agree with the others here. So the sun might not shine a lot in Chicago, but I'm in Milwaukee and it's a beautiful sunny day here with lots more of them to come this summer! Bring it in for a-fixin!!! (You'll be glad you did.)

I was under the impression that they shoot the entire car solid (in your case PS), then they mask the car and then shoot the top. So you should be seeing silver?

Keep us posted on what the dealer says. Very interesting.

Red

Not to stir the pot or anything, but remember cars do suffer damage in shipment. They are fixed and sent on to the consumer. It is usually superficial, but nonetheless the car is not necessarily virgin when you receive it. This goes for ALL manufacturers including the $100k + cars.
