R50/53 MINI Prescription Glasses Received
MINI Prescription Glasses Received
I did it!!
I am wearing a pair of prescription glasses with the MINI logo. I ordered them from the Italian company Giarre.

There was a thread about this, but they emailed the company to see if they could get the frames in the US. They could not.

You need to order them from Italy and get them delivered to the US or Canada.
Giarre has a phone number in California, but it links directly to Italy. I tried for months to get a hold of someone at that number not knowing this fact, the time change is significant between California and Italy. Check the Italian time zone before you call.
I took a chance and submitted my order on the Giarre website, and a nice lady Laura Tilli (service@giarre.com) who spoke fair english helped me the rest of the way.
The price of my frames and lenses was $144 CDN delivered to my door direct from Italy. The lenses aren't any high quality material, but they were included in the price and I have no complaints with them. My prescription was outside of limits set on the website, and so I chose to get the frames without lenses. Laura emailed me saying my order was on hold until I sent her my prescription, I sent it to her and she said there was no problem. She did offer me the chance to get better lenses, but I said I would get them at my local optometrist.
I would have to check back through all my email correspondence, but I think the whole proceedure took about a month and a half, and delivered to my door in Saskatchewan by UPS.
I will be doing this again for a second/spare set of sweet looking glasses.
Cheers.

According to that website, they only make six different frames in the MINI collection but all 6 of them are nice enough to have made it into the "TOP TEN- Most popular models in the Mini's collection"
I'd love to see some frames that are a bit rounder to better suit my face. . .

I would like to see a pic of them with the Mini logog too. However, I fear if I ordered these glasses my family would have me committed. They already think I have gone off the Mini deep end
I've never posted pictures before, so lets give this a try.
I think there are three pictures attached.

Very cool. WOW! Your lenses are thick!
Thanks for posting. I was wondering how I could get MINI logo'd frames. I'm due for another set of eyeglasses.
Do you know if they have a sunglass attachment for them too?

Holly Crap, are you blind without glasses( in the profile of the glasses picture they look to be about 1/4 of an inch thick)? I've not seen glasses that thick since my wife went to plastic lenses.

I do like the glasses. They're sweet.

Can you get transition lenses in them?

These are by far the thickest lenses I have ever had in a pair of glasses. Good estimate on the thickness, actual thickness on edge is 0.283". My prescription is around -6.0 incase you were wondering.
I was truly amazed when they arrived. The plastic material must be ultra low quality, thus no extra charge for them (optically they are fine). I am going to get some new high density leaded crystal polycarb blah blah blah.
Sorry ThromB, I don't know about a transition option.
Beken, I haven't seen a sunglasses option either. That might not be a good option because the lenses are quite small and they sit a good distance away from the face. You would get direct sunlight from over the glasses as well as from around the sides.
Cheers.

yeah...go to your local optometrist and they should be able to give you all sorts of options on the new lenses to make them thinner. Minus 6 is up there but not all that high...my Rx is minus 11...which is probably why I became an optometrist, my wife too.....a 'double high index' lens, such as 1.67 would be one option, there are even higher index lenses..1.71 and 1.74..but the gain isn't all that much in your Rx....definitely go for anti-reflection coating, as will make a huge difference in appearance and vision.....don't forget to provide us pics of the new lenses
