Help me before I die!!!

I might kill myself if someone cant help me install my alarm system. My dealer sold me the system last week-end,but wouldn't give me any instructions! I have no clue what I'm doing! Does anyone have instructions or pictures to help me before I commit suicide (kidding)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here are the OEM alarm instructions from Outmotoring. These are for the hard top - I hope you don't have the cabrio (can't tell from your sig pic but it looks like a tin top) because I hear that the installation is totally different for the rag top (since there's no place overhead to put some needed componants). If you do have a cabrio let me know so I can look around for them.

Good luck!!

Pretty lame of your dealer. It sounds like they wanted to influence you to let them install it at that healthy dealer labor rate.

Yeah, that's BS that your dealer wouldn't give you the instructions...

I've installed a bunch of 'dealer installable' parts before, and never had a parts/service guy not print out the the instructions when requested!

And speaking of the "healthy dealer labor rate", the dealership I brought my car to for non-warranty repairs wanted 1 hour labor to install an armrest cover! (FYI - it literally snaps on. My total labor time was 45 seconds. Really.)

*steps off soapbox*

Anyway, if you have any trouble, don't hesitate to ask for help!

They just didn't want me to do it myself! They were waiting for me to screw up so that they could charge me to fix what I did and then install it! It pissed me off so bad, I almost didn't get it from them. I knew that you guys could help though!
Thanks for every thing!

Yeah, ain't the web great??!? The internet is the greatest weapon ordinary people have ever had against tyranny, price gouging, and other sorts of mayhem.

That 45 second armrest install would have cost you an hour of labor at $100-120/hr. Everybody has to eat, but even Jenna Jameson ain't worth a Ben Franklin for only one minute's time...

Unfortunately, the original poster ain't outta the woods yet. That alarm still has to be coded into the body control computer by the good ol' stealership. Even so, he's probably saving some money and he's getting to work on his car. More importantly, he's learning that he CAN do some things himself and save massive amounts of money over the long haul.

Long boring story, but here's how I started....
Back in '85, I had to drop out of college and get a job to help support the family while my Daddy was battling cancer. I stopped by the Auto Shack (now Auto Zone) and got some spark plugs, oil and oil filter for my car (a '71 Maverick Grabber with 302 and 3 speed manual). I wanted to do some basic maintenance and save some money. On the way home, my engine ran hot, so I whipped into a service station (remember those?). The water pump had failed. I asked the man for an estimate and he quoted me $250 (my whole week's pay). He told me that the pump was $150 and the labor was only $100. (Only and $100 doesn't go together in my vocabulary, and it certainly didn't back then) Since I had the Auto Shack circular in my bag of parts, I asked him if he'd install a $29 water pump from the parts store for the same $100 labor. Naturally, he refused. I went to the parts store, bought the parts, went to a buddy's house and we broke out the Chilton's book and did it for a total cost of less than $50. It is now 22 years later, and to this day I haven't paid to have any more work done to any of my cars. In the intervening 22 years I have amassed quite a collection of tools and perhaps just a bit of knowledge on how to use them properly. I have installed 4 wheel disc brakes and a road racing suspension under a '72 Chevelle SS, a disc brake conversion onto the Maverick, and more mods and repairs than I can possibly remember....

But, ya gotta start somewhere.....

You do know that you will have to have the dealer initialize it. Just be aware as they might try to charge you more to recoup their loss.

Yeah, if at all possible, I would go to a different dealer for the coding.

Yep, hard to believe but...

Yep, hard to believe but this appears to be common - MINI does not provide the instructions when you buy a factory accessory. A friend bought a set of driving lites and asked me to put them on. I said sure - you have instructions right, as long as we have the wiring diagram, no problem...

no, they didn't give me any & not in the box... but they did suggest I call you :impatient Maybe he had to specifically request them? Seems silly.

what did we do b4 all this crud was on the WEB?
but then again, Capt Kirk just had to say, "computer,...."

Yup, you have to specifially ask for the instructions when you purchase an OEM product from the dealer. Reason being is that all of the instructions are in the the service folks computer system, and they're printed out as needed.

Typically though, in my experience anyway, it's never a problem for a service/parts guy to run off a copy of whatever instructions you need!

AS the OP stated, his dealer would not give him any directions. Not typical, but BS nonetheless.
