Help: How much should I spend for a 2002 MINI?

There is a Mini Cooper S 2002 with 60,000miles with sportspackage, no sunroof or moonroof, it's a 6 manual with front & front side air bags. This is being sold by a used car lot.

I was just wondering how much I should pay and could ask for this Mini?

Out the door? With warrenty?

Are you thinking out the door with warrenty or starting around 13-14k?

I would say starting around 13-14k. With tax, reg.,lic,ect. And the Warrenty you would pay around $17k. Only buy the warrenty if its from a well known car like (Chevy, BMW, ect.) If its one of those hole in the wall lots dont trust the warrenty and also get the car checked out if you do buy from them. If you live by me Id be more than happy to go check it out for you.

$13-14k for the car. Be very careful with aftermarket warranties. Some are worth less than the paper they're written on. Investigate the company offering the warranty. See how they are at paying off on claims. Then read the terms of the warranty very carefully. If you are satisfied after all of this, then negotiate the price of the warranty; don't just take it at the first price offered. These things are a huge moneymaker for dealerships.
Also, check with your auto insurance carrier; some offer extended warranties as well. At least you know who you're dealing with.

Yep Very True! Another thing is to make sure the warrenty company is in the county. My friend got ripped off. He bought a warrenty for a company localed in the cayman islands. When he went to get his car fixed the guy told him that there was no such company. So just becareful.

Thank you Jtrem & 3coc for your helpful knowledge. To bad I live in SF bay area or I would have to take you up on your offer Jtrem.

The dealer is offering 15k for it so I will have to talk him down. I definately will have to be carefull about the warrenties....sounds like risky business.

GoodLuck with it all! Sorry I cant help you in person. If you have any questions just PM me. I would say go down look at the car, drive it, make an offer of around 13k. If he bites on it then start talking. If not just say well thank you for your time and walk away. Then wait alittle while then go back and make a slightly higher offer if you want the car. I love to toy with the dealers. They wanted $26k for my G35. I walked out the door paying $26k but with tax, lic. and the whole 9 yards. Good Luck with it! Any questions feel free to ask.

What part of the country are you in? In Houston that car would be closer to $17K to $18K. I was recently in the market, and used cars were running so high we decided to buy a new R56, even though we have to wait.

bayglface, all MINIs come with 6 airbags, standard: two in the dash (steering wheel and glovebox), sides of front seats, and two head bags ("sausages"). Take it for a test-drive and check the interior for wear and tear. Try getting in and out of the backseat to make sure the seat levers work properly. Check under the bonnet (hood) to see if the coolant tank looks leaky or not, and check the oil. Hope it works out for you!

Advertising standard features to make them sound like options is a classic sign of a scummy, greasy dealer. I'd take that as a big warning sign not to trust anything from them that you don't get in very clear writing.

I also would recommend against buying an '02 model unless the complete service records are available to you. A lot of lemons rolled off the assembly line that year, and who knows why someone ended up selling it. The warranty ran until 50,000 miles and this car has 60, so the person may have been fed up with an unresolvable problem and sold what they knew would be a money pit.

I agree on the 02's. Not saying I wouldn't buy one, it just have to be one where I knew the owner.

Have you checked here on NAM? Here's an 04, it's more but you have a bit of a warranty...
