R50/53 value assessment needed for an '04 MCS
value assessment needed for an '04 MCS
I got a call from a local diehard Subaru buddy who's looking at buying an MCS. '04 BRG/W MCS with all three packages....15k miles, immaculate condition. The non-MINI dealer is asking $21900.
I felt this was a bit high, but obviously there's some wiggle room. Advice from the peanut gallery....keep shopping, or try to work a deal? If so, what's a 'fair' price given the R56 around the corner.

Honestly that is hi. Prices have started to drop on the earliercars quite a bit in the past 6 months. I just picked up my 05 for 16500, it has DSC and Multi Function wheel and 50k miles.
If i had the vin I can run it through an apprasial system here at work and see what that says. It returns Black book and Nada Values as well as Auction Data.
According to NADA book retail would be 23,875 with leather, sunroof and HK, add another $750 for NAV. Black book in Xtra clean is $21,800 with Sport package and Nav, based on an 04 Cooper S I pulled of the web with all the options. But the market is flooded with Coopers now so Prices are Dropping

Tell your friend to skip the '04 and look for an used '05. In 2005 MINI made significant changes to the car, including shorter gearing, better supercharger, revised exhaust, making the car a much better buy than any of the older MCS.
I agree about seeking an 05 rather than an 04 or earlier. We have both an 03 and an 06 and the build quality of the newer car is much better.
With prices dropping and new models on the way, 05's should be taking a hit for resale value about now.

The high/low argument is pretty subjective. If you are in California then I am sure used mini's are a dime a dozen so the resale will be much less.
I just bought a 2003 with 29.5k miles with every option except the Nav system (even had park distance) for $18.5k... I was very pleased with the deal. I am sure some will think its high but from all my options in my area it was a very good deal. It even had a 11 months on the factory warranty because its in service date was very late.
Also I am not to sure how much of a hit the resale values will be taken. I for one (and I am sure many others) am not ready to move to a car without the supercharger whine. When its time to get another mini in a few years I will be looking for a late model 2006 instead...
