Motor City MINI recommendation?

I'll be in the Detroit area tomorrow and was going to stop in to Motor City Mini to look for my first Mini. Any recommendation on who I should see?

I ended up ordering my wife's Mini from a dealer 5 hours away because Motor City said it would take 3 months longer to get it and they wouldn't give a penny off sticker and no free anything...no floormats..nothing. The other dealer gave me $800 in free stuff...clearbra, ipod, mats, etc.

The closest Ohio dealer to me. Classic. You'd have to negotiate your own terms and they will be different because it is a 07 but they are willing to throw in labor and other stuff to make a deal.

DON'T DO IT!!!!!!

I agree on MCM... Junk. I reluctanly bought mine for MSRP with no extras from them. Went back once for insurance claim (very long story) and will never go back due to their service people. The purchasing wasn't too bad but when I build online, give them a piece of paper and wait to order, how bad can they mess it up? Also, there was a scratch on my roof from their roof rack install which I made them buff out before I took delivery. Not to mention finger prints all over the sunroof. Check out either Classic as mentioned or try the BMW dealership in Eastpoint MI (?, not sure if that's actually where), they sell used mini's and maybe new??, not sure. Kelly Krock works down there, she was ok to deal with when she worked at MCM.

I believe MCM is the only Mini dealer in the Detroit area.

I did not have a bad experience ordering my car there. Kelly was my MA, and as indicated above, she has since left. They threw in some free oil filters and floor mats, and made sure the car was prepped very well. In fact at one point during delivery I noticed a smudge on the back C pillar and rather than a licked thumb rub to confirm it wasn't a scratch (which is really all I wanted), they actually sent it back to detailing for a complete cleaning.

I've only had one service issue, and it was dealt with quickly and professionally. My car has some mods and they gave me no grief whatsoever.

I was a bit reluctant because I had heard a LOT of bad stories about MCM before I ordered, but overall I've been somewhat pleased.

YMMV, I guess. Good luck.

Mini Cooper may refer to:

The Mini (marque), which includes a number of different models produced by BMW since 2000. A number of different models have cars with the "Mini Cooper" title, including the Mini Hatch, the Mini Clubman, the Mini Countryman, the Mini Coupé, the Mini Roadster, and the Mini Paceman
A Mini model called the "Mini Cooper" was made by the British Motor Corporation from 1961 to 1971, then from 1990 to 2000. John Cooper, owner of the Cooper Car Company and designer and builder of Formula One and rally cars, saw the potential of the original Mini for competition, and worked with Issigonis, the designer of the original Mini.

I bought my car in Cleveland at Classic yet I live in Rochester, MI. Those of you that are local know how close that is to MCM. I get my car serviced at MCM however. I like Tiffany in Service.

I've also never had a problem with MCM. I bothered them for hours at a time when I was shopping and they were always very nice to me. As I got closer to ordering I brought the whole family to the dealership and they were treated royally by Helga. Even when I found and purchased a great used MINI they were great to me when I stopped in and told them.

The only time that I've been back for service was a warranty issue with a broken reversing light switch and they took care of that ASAP and never mentioned my obvious mods underhood. In fact when they called my name, I hadn't even finished my coffee and this was without an appointment one morning as I was driving by. Maybe it's just my luck that they were nice to me all those times that I stopped by?

They are also a sponsor for the Battle of the Brits car show and I appreciate that. Apparently Eitle threw a heck of a party for customers when they had their anniversary (I should have bought my car there!) They also ran that pumpkin carving contest last Halloween and that was a kick.

Every dealership has it's ups and downs, but with turnover you should always be able to get what you want eventually. I've spoken with Regina, Wayne and even Eitle (owner) and have been impressed with everyone.

I fyou get a chance to go back, talk to Diane at reception and tell her your story. She'll treat you right...which reminds me, I think that I need some MINI swag. I'll stop by and see what happens.

Ron

I bought mine from MCM earlier this month. I only talked to Lisa Harris and I had a comparitively great experiance.

I initially went in on a Thursday and looked around. I talked to Lisa and told her I would not buy a Red or Light Silver MINI. After checking her inventory, there were none there that fit my price range (20K), color, and was an S.

I left unfulfilled, but I got a call the next day that they had just taken in a DS/B Cooper S. A 2004 with 13,249 miles on it. I went in on Saturday to check it out. Lisa was busy, but since I had my dad with me, the receptionist gave me the keys to an 06 S so that I could take my dad out for a drive. I called Lisa later that day and talked about the DS cooper.

It was a holiday on monday, but when Tuesday came around I was there and bought the car that afternoon. Got it for 19,995, which is exactly what it was listed for. She said they were too in demand for her to lower the price. I asked if they could toss in come JCW carbon fiber pieces at reduced cost or anything, but no luck. I did forget to find out out how much some bonnet stripes would be, but oh well.

That's my story, they were very firm on price but I had a good experiance. I would definately recommend her.

Yeah, they're so in demand that they have a lot full of last year's model.
If this dealer was as great as the shills say it is, they wouldn't have so many Mini fans shopping out of state.
I thought the exact same thing. When you are not armed with information bad things can happen.

I ended up getting my Cooper at Bill Jacobs in Chicage. It would have been about the same travel time to there or Detroit. Bill Jacobs had exactly what I was looking for: BRG Cooper with Cold, Premium, and Sport. I negotiated all over the phone. $750 off MSRP. Drove over and picked it up last week.

Motor City did not have the color or combination of packages and only offered $200 off MSRP.

I'm not complaining at all. I got a barely used 2004 MINI with exactly what I wanted for a price several thousand dollars less than when it was new.

MINIs have had the lowest depreciation for the last 5 years, I believe. If I got one with only 13,000 miles for much less than it blue books and less than it was originally sold, I'm gonna call it a good deal.

Plus, I'm happy with my choice and I have zero regrets. Move on.

Wozzel, please tell us how your service goes with Classic or whatever other MINI dealership to take it to next. I'm curious to see if with your specific set of circumstances different dealerships treat you differently
