Should I buy?

I have been oggling over Minis for quite some time now and found a lovely option. Looking at these specs, what would you consider a fair price? Right now, its set at $24.5k.

Seems reasonable. Depends on who's selling it I guess.

Sounds too good. Check on car fax on something similar before. Did you do a test drive, also, find why the last owner gave it away. If all come clean, and you like it then go for it. All those accesories are worth a lot. By the way, What year is it?

Sorry about now adding the year. This is an '05. Good idea about the carfax. One bad thing about the idea of a test drive is that the car is 1000 miles away. I am a little confused on how to handle that. They did say they would pay for the transportation for me to get down there when purchasing the vehicle.

The listed price was $24k with s-lites. I got them to swap for the JCW wheels for $400. Am I left with any room for further negotiations?

05' thats still a very good deal, id say go for it...drive out, test drive it, if u like it, youll have the best ride home ever! if not, you have a story to tell your friends. or....im SURE! one of your, soon-to-be, fellow MINIacs would have no problem with taking a look at it for ya, assuming they live closer to the dealership then you do, what dealership is it at?

ps - sorry for the horrible grammer, im tired, ill look into editing this post in the morning.

In that case, I will recommend for you to post a thread in regards to the dealer. Maybe somebody here knows or has dealt before with that dealer. That mileage is very low for a car with 2 years (it is about 2,500 miles a year)

Yeah, where about is the car located? Maybe someone on the board is close and is in need of a service visit. I know I would gladly take a look at and test drive another MINI while mine was getting fixed haha.

The car is at Hendrick Mini in North Carolina. If you live in the area and want to go check it out for me that would be wonderful. I would love to get some face to face to vehicle (if that even makes sense) feedback on the car.

I wouldn't say that it's a steal, but it's a reasonable price for sure. See if you could get them to go down to 23k.

Sure you can. The worst that can happen is they say no. Everything is negotiable. Tell them that you can't go any higher than 23k. See what happens.

Here is what my last correspondence said:

I completely forgot that you were in Ohio. I apologize. I spoke with Chad about you situation and he gave me our best offer we can give. He said we would swap the wheels for $500.00 and cover the cost of your transportation to Charlotte. That is the best we can do on our end to earn your business. This is a great car. If you were to buy this vehicle new with all of the equipment you are getting, it would cost you over 32,000.00.

I understand your situation. I wouldn’t want to travel to purchase a vehicle unless I knew I was getting the best deal. This is our best deal that we can offer you. The car would be 24,400.00 with the JCW wheels and we will cover your transportation to Charlotte. I hope you see what a great deal this is. If not, I hope you are able to find what you are looking for elsewhere. If you need anything else, please let me know.

I have a feeling they wont go lower... KBB on that car is about $28K... Although you may get them to throw in some freebies. Or try and negotiate the price and if they say no, just say "Ok, then for the asking price if you can throw in a keychain, hat and one of those stuffed bulldogs I will take it.". Thats assuming you will still buy it at the asking price of $24.4K.

EDIT: I forgott that they are willing to get you down there and drive it back so I wouldnt even try and negotiate price... But I would get them to throw in those things I mentioned above and a $50 gas card =P

I'd suggest posting in the North Carolina forum under the M2C2 or Tarheel clubs to see if anyone would be willing to do a test drive for you. There are several members from the Charlotte area (where Hendrick is located) and someone might be able to help you out.

JCW door sills on a car that's not a JCW. Gotta love that. Airbox and wheel's don't make it so.

As to whether it's a good deal, if you like all the stuff on it, and you can afford it. Then it's a good deal.

Although this coudl easily be argued either way (which I am not trying to do, as with this there is no right/wrong answer) but all the JCW badge represents is that there are JCW parts installed on the car. My MCS came with a JCW badge on the boot which I never removed, but it does have various JCW interior parts and I have done a fair amount of engine work also, so I am sure it can hang with a true JCW car.

BE4, your's (IMHO) would be a JCW. I think for a Mini to be called a JCW (if it's not a factory edition) there's got to be the major JCW mods. Not just the weekend mechanic add ons.

My 5¢ (adjusted for inflation)

Yeah I see where you are coming and with that perspective I agree with you. A friend of mine with a MINI shares a similar perspective as you saying that my car not falls under the same category as JCW as it is not stock.

All in all I agree with Gromit that the JCW parts should not yeild the dealer any more money on this car than if the JCW parts were not there. I think it is a good price for miles/year/options and the fact they will pay for your travel down to get it (assuming they are flying you and not by bus) then get them to throw in a couple freebies (thish will cost them about $100 or so) and they unload the car and you get a good deal.

I think I got a good deal on my MCS which I bought in January of this year (06) and it was an 03 IB/IB MCS with premium, sport, cold weather, HK, anthracite dash and trim, lapis blue leather (not leatherette) and NAV. It had 15K miles on it and cost me $19.5K.

As suggested please post this in the M2C2 forum on the east coast section. The club has vary good dealings with them.
