300,000 mile MCS

I played golf with a friend today and he told me about a guy he met earlier in the week that has 300,000 miles on his MCS. He (my friend) was at a local restaurant and he saw this guy and his wife pull in as he was leaving. He said they started talking about the car and the guy told him that he retired in 2002, bought the Mini new and have pretty much been traveling every since. The man said he was from Atlanta and has traveled to NY on to Wash and pretty much all over the USA. I guess that would have to be the most miles on a Mini.

And I know a guy who knows a guy who knows this lady and she told him…

Get a picture of the ODOM and I’ll only start to believe this BS.

I personally know the person who has the more miles on a “new” MINI than anyone else does and he has not broke 200K yet.

I don't find it hard to believe. 4 years and 50k miles a year. I put 50k on my MCS the first year I had it. Now two years later it only has 70k... Sits in the shop more than on the road.

That's the scariest post I have yet to read on this site. I work with a guy who drives a Buick Century wagon, circa 1988, that has 385,000 miles on it. I've got 145,000 on my 1998 Regal. I sure hope my MC makes it past 50k before going into the death spiral/vortex of unreliability.

Doug Pilgrim has more miles on his 02 MCS or any other MINI reguardless of type than anyone and he has not broke 200K yet.

He was the one to break 100K first in a new MINI and if you go to the 100K thread you will see MINI USA gave him a special badge for that.

He has not changed the miles he drives since then, but he did buy another MINI. I'm not sure if he drives the new or the old to work daily.

The bottom line is Doug Pilgrim booked 100K on his MCS or any type new MINI IN THE WORLD before anyone else. I will bet Doug is still in the leed.

MINI even made a special badge for him.

Put up or shut up from here. Show some ODOM pictures or drop it.

Some bait with 18 some post. Go fish where the stupid my bite.

OMG, a guy shares a story he hears second hand and you basically jump down his throat about it...

I didn't see anywhere in the post that said this was a proven fact... Maybe it's true, maybe it's someone telling a story on a golf course (like that never happens)...

Of course, I would like to see an odometer reading before I believe it a fact. But so what?

Can't we all just get along???:impatient :impatient :impatient

I don't give a f if anyone believes it or not. I was just telling what my friend said. My friend could care less about NAM, MINI or anything related. There is absolutely no reason for him to make it up or the guy he talked to as well. I as well could care less but some on this board seems to take it personal like it makes them distinguished or something. Get a life

I agree, chill man - there was nothing in the post that deserves this kind of response. Can't we all just get along.

The guy that drives for me has 250,000+ on his truck in a little under two years.

About a year ago I met a couple that had a MCSc, they sold their home and are traveling the country in their MINI but I'm sure it's not the same people. I don't know how many miles they had on their MINI.

I picked up my MCS on 4-19-03 and have almost 97,000 on it.

As a point of reference....

There was recently a '05 JCW MCS for sale on NAM with 71,000 miles on it:

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=81534

I guess for a 2002, I could see 300k...

Either way, that is conspicously high mileage for a MINI even if it is theoretically do-able.

Now we know...or rather MINIUSA knows...Mr. Pilgrim since apparently when he has maintenance done they read his mileage and he got their attention to the point of formal recognition. Question is, could someone clock that kind of mileage w/o MINI knowing squat about it through maintenance checks? I suppose it is possible depending on where they had that work done. Certainly NAM would not know these folks, because many happy MINI owners know absolutely nothing of NAM, nor we of them.

So.....a mystery....and if nothing else a great story!!!!

Yes, And I don't find it hard to belive walking through a mine field you may step on one, but a fact is a fact.

Doug Pilgrim has more proven miles and documented miles on his MCS or any MINI to this date. 4GASM, who I met at the Dragon two years ago, to my knowledge has the second highest.

Having 300k miles isn't something people would go online and brag about it seems. Maybe saying you met someone with a Mclaren F1 GTR or something, but not meeting a guy who drives his car a lot.

Sorry, but people do brag about their mileage here and many about how many miles they’ve driven problem free!!!

At the point when you’ve driven a 02 for 4 plus years as only few of us have and have not had one problem other than true auto satisfaction, being maintained to our desired wants and needs only by oil, brake and the tire changes. I'd be happy should you ever come offer to check my tire pressure, I'll even point out where the valve stems are.

I know a guy who knows a guy who knows this lady and she told him that Doug sold his 2002 MCS with all the miles on it to Pat Wallis many, many months ago (at least 6 months ago). Pat named it "Miles" and is converting it to a race car.

Just seems kinda funny how people are so sure of their "facts" around here.

What percentage of MINI's actually get serviced by the dealer according to the maintenance schedule? Come on, out with it. That's a fact, someone must know. Might it be less than 100%? What percentage of MINI owners have ever even READ a MINI related forum? Come on, that's a fact too, someone must know the answer... Might THAT be less than 100%? And what percentage of MINI owners have attended MOTD? Oh, Oh , I know - less than 100%.

While I find 300K miles unlikely - I also think it's comical that folks would assume that because (1) MINI doesn't know about it and (2) nobody on NAM has talked about it and (3) we haven't seen it at MOTD, therefore it CAN NOT EXIST. Wouldn't have passed the last logic course I took in college many, many moons ago.... maybe that DOES pass for logic these days - would explain where conspiracy theorists come from.

Nothing personal - just a pet peeve.

people on this site are wierd, some more than others, hey i am one of the weird ones too, please stop being mini fact *****. You (people grilling the OP) can state the facts you know and politely ask for proof from others about the ones they "know", but you sound like you are a bad sports dad at a lttle league game yeeling at the oposing team like it is life or death......

oh yeah, my mini is the only mini to be at 720 miles at this very moment so nah nah! Go eat some bird or tofu bird or help someone in the kitchen you goof *****.

I agree.. why should he make this up? Why is this so difficult for some people to believe. I for one have no reason to doubt his claim. Why not give him the benefit of the doubt.. what does he have to gain by telling a lie?

Well said...

And twonz1, if I came across as not believing your friend, I apologize. My intent was not to judge anyone claim...

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Well, yeah, that's my point precisely....it most certainly can exist. I can see some happy couple out there touring America having the time of their lives and no one (MINI, NAM, or otherwise) have clue one about it. More power to them...moreso if they have 300K!!!

It would be a tad bit unusual that they would have had none of their service/checkups done at a MINI dealer.....ever. If they had, then MINI would have a bead on their high mileage through their vast computer network. It would be unusual, yes.....however, it is still possible.

If this is the case, they probably have little knowledge that they are celebrities in the MINIland, just as Mr. Pilgrim is!!
