R50/53 Smooth ride at speed
#1
Out on the twisties yesterday I hit 110 mph for the first time w/out meaning to. I had to pass a clump of cars on a straight with a very slight downhill to it (did it safely :smile. Doing about 60-65, downshifted to 3rd, dropped the pedal, hit 4th and then 5th as I finished the pass. Looked over, saw the needle, and mentioned it to my wife. The car felt NO DIFFERENT than it does during the 85-95 mph we normally do on the straights of these runs. The run-flats felt great, and the car still felt painted to the road. No sign of anybody breathing hard or breaking a sweat. My wife was amazed- she wouldn't have known the speed had I not pointed it out to her. She could have been sipping a latte when we hit the triple digits. Had to smile. Motoring mojo, MINI's got it

>>I have the MCS with the 17" performance and the sport package and I am pleased to announce that the ride does not suffer as you get up into triple digits speeds. (Not that I would know anything about that )

Same here and I agree. My passenger had absolutely no idea that we were at 110 the day I did it.

I have had my MCS now for only one day and 135 miles and I too don't see what all the fuss has been about the reported rough ride with the 17" sport pack wheels and run flats. Our other two vehicles are a BMW X5 4.4 equipped with the sports package suspension and 19" wheels and a Chevy 2500HD truck that does in fact ride like a truck. The MCS is an improvement! My wife even commented on how quite and smooth the MCS is; she is impressed as am I.
