Ok, no cheesy Elvis accents...
Hey! We'll be heading to Vegas in a couple of weeks and we're wondering if anyone knows of a good value (cheap?) in a place I can rent a Mini. Or maybe it's a bad idea out there...
I've check places like rent-a-vette, and they want 79.00 per day.
Whatcha think?

Sounds like a reeeeealy bad idea in that town. If I were you I'd just walk the strip. You don't really need a car and to get a trendy car like the MINI you'll get overcharged by 5-10x. I've been to Vegas about a dozen times and I've never needed to have a car there. There are monorails, trams, and enclosed walkways that get you everywhere quickly. Wish I could tell you where you could rent a MINI cheap, though, that would be fun.
Most of the rental companies are for people who just won big and want to blow money. It's not worth it

I went to vegas in February and wanted to rent a mini as well...I ended up not renting it because they only had S's and I can't drive a manual. But during my previous trip to Vegas, my boyfriend and I rented a Prowler from rent-a-vette and it was a great experience. The guys are really cool and friendly. I highly recommend rent-a-vette.
And if you're thinking about buying a cooper, Vegas is a great place to test it out, especially out at the red rock canyon area. There isn't much traffic, and the scenic tour is a really nice drive. And after driving the Prowler around out there for a few days, my boyfriend was convinced he wanted one and actually bought one a couple weeks after we got home.
Anyways, have fun in Vegas! (as if it's possible not to)

Unless you're planning on doing things that require a car (out of town sight-seeing) it's not really worth renting a car. This city has heaps of cabs, if there are 3 or 4 of you, it's often worth getting a limo, relatively cheap, and if you tip your driver, he/she will often give you a direct cell number so that you can contact him again directly. Cash is king here. If you are doing Strip stuff, you'll spend more time sitting in traffic than actually moving. Most of the off-Strip properties have shuttles to pick you up for free also.
If you are set on renting an MINI here, the 1st one I saw on the road here had a "Dream car rental" licence plate surround. You could contact them, though I don't know the number.
If you ask nicely, I might let you sit in my MCS.

I'm going to Vegas for the first time the last week of June with my best friend in the whole wide world, Julie!!
I don't think we will be renting any cars (drinking & driving do not mix, and there will be lots of drinking going on). Any suggestions for restaurants, shows, clubs, etc. would be greatly appreciated!

Pretty much anything you want, you can find. What kind of shows and restaurants do you like?

So come and visit! And bring your gambling money with you. We have to pay for the schools SOMEhow!
As I mentioned before, if you don't really NEED a car, don't rent one. You'll probably spend as much time sitting in traffic as moving (on the Strip, at least) and there are plenty of easy ways to get around here.

I HAVE RECOMMENDATIONS! I love Vegas - these are a few of my favorite things...
1. Dinner at the Luxor steakhouse - absolutely unbelievable steaks and seafood. Truly a fantastic experience - perfect service both times, perfectly prepared food, and perfect steakhouse environment. My highest recommendation.
2. Blue Man Group - I'm a drummer so I'm biased towards this show (it's a comedy musical, kind of) but it's unbelievable. Nothing like it, not even Stomp.
3. Stay at the MGM Grand - it's the closest to everything - there's a tram that runs from it to Bally's at the other end of the strip and there are enclosed airport style flat escalators (name anyone?) that run to Luxor, with a tram to Mandalay Bay etc etc etc. - and it has really nice rooms and a gorgeous pool.
4. Get the pizza at the MGM Grand food court - there's a little mini food court with McDonalds, a chinese place, and the best pizza in America*. It's unbelievable, but I'm probably overhyping it - just go try it.
5. If you're a high roller go to the Bellagio to gamble - it's the most expensive place on the strip and they've got good incentives for high rollers
6. Hit the deli in NY-NY - really fresh cold cuts. Delicious.
7. Avoid the Stratosphere, unless you want to ride the 'coaster- don't bother hitting it - it's out of the way and a real POS in comparison to the rest of the strip
8. Don't miss the Venetian - I won't spoil this for you with any hints, but it's gorgeous - you don't want to ignore this one.
Thats about it. I wish I could recommend clubs or more places to gamble, but I'm 19 and that's illegal (translation: I haven't been there since I got a fake ID)

There is a restaurant atop the Stratosphere Hotel and Casino. It is called Top of the World. It rotates.

The food is very good. The prices are reasonable. The staff are friendly and well trained by a local culinary institute. But, it is a MUST-DO because of the view. To say it is spectacular is an understatement. Go and thank me later.

If you rent a MINI and decide to take her out for a spin to *see what she can do* on what appears to be a deserted desert road, watch out! Nevada state troopers are very clever about hiding and they will pull you over right quick if you are scootin' about too quick. this of course wouldn't be a problem on the strip, where you can practically walk from Circus Circus to the Trop quicker than driving...
