I’m going to be ordering my Cooper on Monday! Now I just need to nail down a few options:

I have heard both good and bad about the standard v/s sport seats. I think I’m gonna go with the sport seats. Is this the right decision? I plan on making a lot of long road trips, so I want to pick the one that will be most comfortable over extended periods of time.

I was originally going to go with the standard leatherette, since I’ve never owned a car with leather, and while the Leatherette is technically vinyl, it’s a nice as the leather I’ve seen on some cars! But I’m having second thoughts, 1) because I live in Florida, and will be getting the sun-roof. I think that the combo sunroof + black leatherette = major sticky-buns! And 2) After seeing a few pics of the Tartan Red Cloth I’ve fallen in love with it.
But, I’m ordering a Chili Red w/ White roof and I worry that that may be WAY to much red on the inside and out of the car.

Does anyone own the CR/W with Tartan Red interior? Any opinions?

Motor on…

Josh

Aloha fripp:

In Hawaii, I figured cloth was the only way to go and adored the Tartan Red because it reminded me of upholstery I had in my silver 78 Honda Civic which was very comfortable for 20 years.

Every single person who stops to look at Sadie in parking lots always comments on the Tartan Red and red doors, saying it looks so great. It was much more attractive than I imagined (I ordered the car when every dealer only had 3 cars in the showroom, all with leatherette.

I adore the sport seats as do all my passengers.

I've been lurking here for over a year and hope to place an order in the next couple months. I'm going with the Chili Red w/White Top and Tartan Red interior. I was thinking that the red interior may be too much as well, but the all black interior doesn't do anything for me, so I'm going for the red. Too bad you can't get red seats with black door panels. That would add some color without overpowering the interior.

Why not order the leatherette seats and buy the tartan red seatcovers. If it is too much red, you can remove the covers!

The funny thing is - when you can order a car with all these options it makes you kinda crazy. Sitting around agonizing over the color of this or that. But then I remember I'm driving a 10 year old Toyota pickup with a blue interior (blue seats, blue dash board, blue steering wheel, and blue door panels) and I realize that it's all good!

I have a CR/B with tartan interior & anthracite trim. It really looks sharp. I get a lot of compliments about it. I think the anthracite trim really enhances the tarten red because it is darker than the silver trim. Go for it.

The beauty of ordering the car is you get it your way, of course that is the problem when you are not sure how you want it. I agree with your choice of cloth instead of leatherette. Our other car has leather and the seats spend every summer under a beach towel for the reason that you stated. We have a Chili Red w/White on order with the Kaleido Panther black/black interior and Anthracite. I saw one at the dealer that way and it made my decision easier. Unfortunately, the dealer did not have one around like "Sadie" to compare. I also thought about the red since I have a friend with a similar interior color scheme on his red Z06 and it looks great - never mind that his wife refers to it as the brothel. In the end we like the all dark look for the interior but others don't. To each their own. Good luck and the good news is that you probably can't make a "bad" decision.

I was advised to go with cloth because of heat issues which, of course, I did. (My motoring advisor had been driving a MINI for a year which had leatherette...said it got real hot. He suggested sport seats, too, which I love!) As for the red...I think I'd go for it...that Sadie sure is a looker! Sounds like Louie turns a few heads as well!!! There's probably enough other black/gray in the interior to balance out the look quite nicely, especially with that white roof.

hey there,

I actually ordered the CR/W with tartan red interior...I wasn't sure either until I
"built" it on the MINI site...and once I saw it, I had to have it!

The dealer I bought it from aid that he hadn't sold many reds with the red interior,
but he thought it was the sweetest combo. I AGREE! Be bold and go for it!

Let your MINI be a MINI.

Hi Josh,

I got my CR/W MC on 3/1/03 and I ordered her with the tartan red interior  A lot of people have given me compliments on the interior I personally love the color red a lot so for me it wasn't to bright, actually I wouldn't mind the door casings and the seats being a bit brighter.
Here are some older pix of Beepers interior

Please note that the red is a lot brighter in the pix than it is in reality

Wow, all great responses guys! And thanks for all of the pics. I don’t think there was any thumbs-down for the Tartan Red. Think I’m gonna go for it.

Anybody have any opinions of the Anthracite interior vs. the Silver interior with the Tartan Red?

The silver looks good, but the Anthracite w/ the Tartan on the “Build your own Mini” looks really sharp too (and maybe tones things down just a touch).

Anybody have pics of a Tartan/Anthracite combo?

Anybody have opinions on the Standard vs. Sport seats?

Thanks again for all of your help!

Josh

Josh,
I don't have any pics right now. (dig camera is at work) but after seeing the silver trim I think the anthracite does tone it down somewhat. I am really happy with mine & will try to post some pics this week.

Ok, I changed my mind again. I was going with the red interior, but I went to the dealer today and saw the red in person. I still like it, but the red door casings are a bit dull. Now I'm even considering the leatherette. Too many choices!

Definitely get the sports seats unless they are smaller than your frame. The regular seats are too flat and you loose your position when in tight turns.

I love the red seats, but if it is possible I would only get the combined black/red seats, not the doors. Also I would consider the Anthrazit interior dash trim with the red seats, I bet that would look awesome.

I've got a Cosmos Black MC coming, (just got the word it was finished today and on it's way to the docks), with the tartan/anthracite interior. The anthracite does tone it down and give it a nice look,IMHO.

Mexminime,
If only you could order the Tartan red seats without the red doors… I would be all over that combo! Does anybody know a way you could order only the seats in Tartan? You sure can’t spec it out that way on Miniusa.com.

I just wish I could see the T.R. interior in person before I order. My dealer must have 3 dozen cars on the lot and not one of them has the Tartan Red interior.

I guess pictures are the next best thing. So, please, keep ‘em coming!

Fripp, the sport seats are $270 (or whatever it is) very well spent. If I could only keep three options on my car, they'd be the sunroof, the multi-function steering wheel, and the sport seats. Good luck with your order and your wait!
