R50/53 Question about production date?
I've ordered my MINI 2003 Cooper and the dealer said I'd have it for a June delivery. However, it's stated that it's Estimated Production Date is 05.09.03. Can this be delivered for a June delivery? I figured since most of you tracked and watch your order you'd know how long it might take to be shipped over.
A lot depends on where the car needs to be delivered to. If your on the East Coast, figure early June for sure, and if your REALLY REALLY lucky the last week of May. (But don't be surprised if you can't get it in May).
If your on the West Coast figure mid to late June. If your talking Hawaii, think July.
However there are numerous factors that can affect your delivery date. The most common are delays transferring your car from the pier to the Vehicle Processing Center. These delays have been as much as 2 weeks, how fast your car gets off the pier and into the VPC depends on how busy the VPC is.
The most bizarre delay I've heard so far. Numerous MINI's were scheduled to ship from Southhampton to the West Coast onboard the TRICOLOR. However, the ship sank in the English Channel before reaching Southampton, delaying at least one MINI by a month!!!

Much depends upon two factors when estimating the production date to the delivery date. Factor #1 Ocean transport, this is not only dependent upon when your vehicle is ready, but also when there are sufficient numbers to make the trip across the pond. If lucky, you may get a berth almost immediately after assembly, if not, your MINI could wait up to three weeks for trans-Atlantic shipment. Factor #2 is US based ground transportation. East coast, a few days, North Dakota, well lets just hope that it arrives someday. When your MINI is stateside, it goes first from the distribution center to your dealer. Check online, and when your car is stateside, pressure your dealer for delivery. I got lucky from production to pick-up I only had to wait 17 days, but I do live East of the Mississippi.

hey guys...
I just met with my dealer to get my number and (surprise) he had a VIN number
and said the car had been built on April 17. Bu the MINI USA site said it was only "scheduled
for production". My question is...can I believe the dealer? Could it be true?
Does a VIN number mean it's been built already? Arg. Thanks!
