Homework Project on Mini

I have to write a paper for one of my classes...so what else would I write about? The MINI of course!

So now I need some ideas. I have to interview someone (20-30 min), write a 9-10 pg essay 2,000 words in 3rd person, 5 sources (articles, journals, internet, books).

Where do I start?? I'm thinking that focusing on the racing aspect would be fun? Or maybe, doing mods to my car might be a fun subject. Any ideas? Suggestions? Links? Interviewees?? HELP!

what is the paper supposed to be about? You could start with the heritage on the car. Since your a JCW person, you could interview john's son (from jcw). And maybe the race series over seas.

The paper can be about anything! Anyone have an "in" to get an interview with John? That would be awesome! Oooh better yet, a trip to Hawaii would be fun too! Want me to interview you!! Oh wait, you're not in Hawaii? I've been to San Louis, Obispo - my brother was born there! LOL

Thanks!

Obviously if you can do it over the internet I would be happy to answer questions.

If I were you, I would write more of a history/evolution thing about the MINI. When it first came out to how BMW bought them, and now how the racing scene and mods reflect the early years, etc.

Good luck!

Could also tie in the designing of the MINI. From the original with the idea of making the most space in a car by pushing the wheels to the corners to the exhaust tips on the R50 & R53.

yeah i agree with a history of the mini idea, at least thats how id do it. ifd start with the original, and move on to the BMW ones, and how BMW acquired them. id emphasize though the space effeciency as mdsbrain, stated the original minis have so many cool quirks though. like the white roof being there for it to be more visible in racing. plus theres the whole fact the car was created with help from the british government, which is always pretty interesting. just my .02, or more everyone elses .02 and i just put in another cent, so i guess its a collective .03 cents

Maybe we should start by making your thesis. haha

Then we write a sentence or two. I can see this becoming a very long thread.

A comparison between the classic and the new MINI should give you more than 2k words. Also, how about the MINI victories in competition. The passion that MINI owners have, hell you can even post a survey for MINI owners and added to your paper. Good Luck

Write your paper from a historical perspective, how the Suez Canal crisis in 1956 led to a fuel shortage in Britain and Austin's desire to market an affordable and economical car. Sir Alex Issigonis's ground breaking idea of mounting the engine sideways in the front and elastomeric suspension, how Frank Stephenson's retro design recalled the virtues of the car that had been in production for 40 years (1959-1999). You'll find it all on MINIUSA's website. Even if you dont use it for your paper it makes fascinating reading
(Mini won the Monte Carlo Rally four times, but it's third win was withdrawn after the French disqualified the car because of the mounting point of the driving lights, allowing a French team to win).

Wow you guys are good! All of this info will work. I'd love it if you all would PM or email me any info that you may have. Sounds like I may have a book going if everyone contributes.

I like the idea of writing it via the forum by starting off with the thesis statement too! That would be a cool thread. "mdsbrain" I think you should start it since it was your idea!

Thank you Poleiz (Cody), MInisql. Vasquesgordo, Redrocket, Mdsbrain, and flannelhippie!!

Another option would be to go the sociology route and write about the culture that has arisen around the MINI. Maybe a paper on the culture of NAM!

Another social science approach: Why does the MINI beg its drivers to form a relationship with the car? There are so many people (like me) who were never "car people", knew nothing about detailing, and saw their cars as a way to get from A to B...until they got their MINI, and then became raving lunatics. What is it about the MINI?

check wikipedia, too...

and there's always wikipedia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mini_Cooper

you can't be 100% sure of the accuracy of info. on wiki, but it is a good place to get a general overview of a topic.

good luck!
