warranty void???

HI,

Just got my new Mini S 06!

I did about 1,050 miles on it and after a couple thousand I was planing on putting a good intake on it. I heard Alta makes great intakes, but I was wondering if I put an intake in there, will there be any problems when it comes to my warranty? When I go for my first inspection? Does anyone know if an intake is a warranty void???

i think technically your mini dealer has the right to void your warrantee for the intake, but ive heard many mini dealers who choose to ignore minor thigns like the intake.

personally i plan on getting a CAI to, and they are rather easy to install, and if i have to bring the car in a i plan just on switching to the stock one temporarily until i get the car abck, but thats just my plan, and maybe its a stupid plan, sorry for the rant, but i hope i helped

The dealer has to be able to proove that the intake caused whatever part that broke to fail... But ... I would also just go in with the stock one for service.
I busted the rear end on my 01 M3, the dealer said it was more than likley due to the drag radials and launching too hard ... At the end they didn't really give me any trouble to replace the part under warranty.

Just have the dealer install a JCW or Dinan intake.

You should have no problem having your car serviced with the CAI. The only concern would be a warranty claim that the dealer won't fix because they claim the intake caused the failure. I haven't heard of a single person denied warranty work because of an aftermarket CAI.

The warranty dance starts with the dealer...

Since the dealer is the first set of "official" eyes on the aftermarket part, it would seem to be a good insurance policy to ask how mod-friendly your dealer is. Some are very mod-friendly; others are downright mod-hostile. Oh, and don't go in with the attitude of quoting from Magnusson-Moss about how they have to prove a particular part caused the failure.... Unless you are prepared to spend north of $250 large (estimated litigation cost through appeal), Magnusson-Moss is a joke. A better approach is to ask if they would like to do the install (and yes, I know the install could be done elsewhere for less). If they take you up on your offer, then you have them on the hook for any problems that occur down the road (for at least the term of their accessory warranty period - generally two years).

Just swap it out when you go in for service. Only takes a few minutes. Never heard of claims denied for a air cleaner upgrade, but don't twist the tiger's tail.

I called my dealer before installing an intake.
They were very supportive of intakes and said that they not only will continue to work on the car, but would never see a reason why any of the reputable intakes would cause any problems.
