More POWER

I have had my mcs for a nearly two months now and have come to the conclusion that the power is adequate, but I still would like some more. It seems as though a reduction pulley (prob 15%) would be the way to go since its cheap, but are any of them covered in minis warrenty? Anyone else like to comment on different methods/ how yur new pulley works?

If you get a dealer-installed JCW kit, you'll get the reduction pully along with a bunch of other go-fast parts and keep your warranty intact. It is just very expensive for a lot of us, and that is why we have gone with the much cheaper aftermarket pullies, intakes, chips, exhausts, etc.

If price is no object and you want to retain the factory warranty, go with JCW. Otherwise, seek out a good MINI tuner, spend a lot less $$$, and have them install your pulley and other mods.

My MINI dealer warrents and installs/sells ALTA parts. Though they ONLY warrenty a 15% pulley, which is what you want anyway.

Check with your dealer and see what they do.

If you get the pulley, get a 15 or 16%.

Dealer has to prove that the pully cause the failure in the motor.

So i think your gonna be pretty safe cause most people with a 15 or 16 are still doing just fine

Just Do it

15% pulley is very safe. If you are afraid about your dealer, just ask them. Let them install it and write you a paper that states they will cover you car with that mod.

You'll love you MCS with a 15% pulley. Add a cold air intake, a better ECU software and you will drive a completely different car.

SOunds good on paper, but in actual practice your result may vary. There was a long thread about someone trying this and it got them nowhere.

But if your dealer is cool with it otherwise be willing to take it in the shorts if something goes wrong.

Yeah you got a point with certain dealers.

But yet i never had a problem with the pully or the S/c so i never had to worry.

If your dealer is so progressive as to warrant aftermarket parts, that's great. If you have a limited budget, even better. That is the way to go. Pulley, intake, exhaust, ECU tuning. That'll bring you up to somewhere north of 200 crank HP.

But, if your dealer is real by-the-book, and won't warrant any aftermarket parts, (and if that keeps you up at night), you may not want to go aftermarket. You may be forced, in fact, to go with the JCW kit, which would actually be smarter to do, if you have that kind of money. I've heard countless times where people compare a JCW car to an aftermarket modded car of roughly the same HP, and they all say the JCW car accelerates more smoothly, is slightly quicker, and feels better while driving than the modded car. Not to mention that your resale value is higher, (by a lot), and your warranty is still fully intact.

So, having done many mods to my car, I would probably recommend going with the JCW kit, if you can afford it. I've heard nothing but great things about it.

In my experience this is very good advice..... there seems to be some independence from Mini to the dealers and they have some discretion about warranty and mods..... talk to your service manager and ask him point blank... "what mods can I do and still keep my warranty?" or better yet, "I am thinking about these mods.... what is your policy about mods and warranty?"..... it helps if you have a case of his/her favorite beverage in an inconspicuous spot... like on his/her desk
