Yesterday I went with a friend to pick up her new red and black Cooper S. It's always fun picking up a new car and this was no different.

At some point I asked the salesman about her t-shirt with the delivery number and he looked at me like I had two heads. When I picked up Artoo they gave me a shirt with the delivery number (yes it was another dealer) and this salesman thought I was beating him up for a free shirt. When did that custom stop?

And then when we pulled out I wanted to make an entry into her logbook but there was none in the glove box. There was one on another salesman's desk that he said was sent to him a month or so after he bought a Cabrio but how do you start a log if you don't make an entry at delivery?

So then I wonder does Mini still send a Welcome Package or is email and the Black Box all she can hope for?

It's not like the car wasn't enough but I was feeling a bit empty.

So, what comes these days?

PS-The salesman did eventually tell he to pick out a Mini t-shirt but that is not what I was asking for.

 

Never heard of the t-shirt with a delivery number, sounds like something specific to the dealer.

Some dealers give swag, others don't.

Some give gift certificates for swag, others don't.

Most all give you some sort of key chain, and many will throw in a license plate frame with the dealership name on it.

The logbook and other items typically come from MINI a month or more AFTER you take delivery.

MINI #1 in 2003, we got a MINI of Sterling keychain, gift certificate for accessories (don't remember if it was for $25 or $50), a MINI of Sterling license plate frame, and a rose. We asked for (and got) a plush MINI although that was more the exception than the rule.

MINI #2 in 2005, we got a MINI of Towson keychain, MINI of Towson license plate frame, and that was about it... Our MA also gave us his copy of the "Not For Tourists Guide to Washington DC" that he got at a MINI event. Although that was mainly because we lived near DC and went into the city a bit while he was up in Baltimore.

 

When my husband ordered his cabrio in February '06, we got a couple of hats. The black box with logbook and sun tatoos came later.

When, after a couple of months, I ordered my cabrio, I got two wool sweaters ordered, both my kids got a mini-MINI keychain that they got to zoom around on the desk while they were waiting. Wade wanted to order hats for me too, but I said no. (I should have done visors instead.) The black box showed up later, but I got a pen included in my box that my husband did.

This was Niello MINI in CA. I love (most) of the people there.

 

The dealer gave me a $35 gift certificate for the MINI store. That's enough to pick up a key chain and a travel mug.

They also threw in a license plate holder, but it has the dealer's name on it, so is that a gift or an ad?

 

So what is this black box everyone is talking about receiving? I just got my MINI a couple weeks ago. Will I get one? What does it contain?

 

The numbered shirt thing was an early adopter bonus. each of the original dealers in the US had 150 (?) numbered t-shirts that they were supposed to give to the 1st 150 buyers at their dealership. I got one with my car because Desert MINI was only giving them to people who knew to ask for them.
They are no more.

 

I Just took delivery of MINI # 3.

First one was in Nov of 02 and I have a numbered black tee shirt from P&W in Pittsburgh. That one came with a welcome kit and mug in the mail about 6 weeks later. The log was in the welcome kit with the bingo cards and the flash cards. Don't know about the number sequence on the tee shirts, but mine is 202.

Second one was Dec 03. No shirt, but welcome kit and mug showed up about 6 weeks later. I did have dealer installed JCW and they gave me a hat.

Third one was June 06 and the welcome kit (same contents) came last week. Don't know if I'll get a mug or not.

 

I think the numbered t-shirts were just for '02/'03 owners (as Agro described in more detail). I got a keychain from my MA. My bro was nice enough to give me the journal he got with his 2nd MINI, and buy me a nice "Let's motor" license plate frame. I got the welcome kit a few weeks (or months?) later, containing the journal, pen, and a few other goodies (no mug).

Where's my black box? Or is it just for '06 owners?

 

I'm still waiting on my black box, even though I got the email telling me I have now received it. By the time I get it, all the adds that it works with will be gone!

 

How maddening! Perhaps your black box was sucked into a black hole?

WTF is in it? Anyone received one yet?

Not only have some people gotten them, someone posted in the marketplace that they got 2! He's selling one of them.

 

You can't tell other MINI owners? That's just mean. I guess I'll just have to wait patiently, like I have to for everything related to my MINI.

Picked up in July 06, my son was given a big stuffed bulldog and I got choice of key chains, then a package from the dealer came in the mail about a week later with a large soft blanket that had the dealers name and mini wings embroidered on the corner...very nice touch!

the black box came a couple weeks after that.

 

If you're talking about the black "odometer" t-shirts, these were given to the original MINI purchasers back in 2002. I think each dealer got 200-300 of these.

 

I've purchased two MINIs and I haven't gotten a single thing with either one. No keychains, no shirts, no anything. I still haven't received my "black box" either. I know what's in it but oh well.

 

I think I must have lucked out.

I ordered in June of 2005 in San Antonio, picked up in August. I got a free key chain and free window tints - oh, and free installation of the floor mats .

I received the welcome package about a month later (I don't really remember what was in it - I do remember the stickers and the log book though).

I also received TWO of the black boxes a few days ago. One was addressed to my dad, who does not own a MINI, and one was addressed to me .

 

Well, if the point was to cause confusion, the marketing ploy has worked perfectly thus far!

 

I, too, got a numbered T-shirt as one of the first ____ people to get a MINI from P&W, but this was in 2003. I can't recall the number. I also got to choose a CD, 2 keychains, a fairly crappy plastic license plate frame and, upon my mother's insistance that I get still more ("You mean she pays MSRP and you don't even give her floor mats? You can throw in floor mats, can't you? She's paying sticker price! How can you not give her something? Another T-shirt, maybe? You should really give her floor mats. What kind of car doesn't come with floor mats?"), the poor man finally relented and gave me a hat.

About 1 month later I got my MINIUSA welcome box with the mug, bingo, journal, flash cards, note pad and pen.

I just received my black box last week. Huzzah!

Of course, i don't know why I'm telling you this as it should be fairly clear that mine is no longer "new". I think I may just be bragging.

I received a nice form fitting Mini red ball cap, a T-shirt and a MCS key fob, I was just 2 ticked to get the car, to worry about the lil things. The saleman had these in a bag waiting for me.

 

The first black box is something you get for buying a MINI. Mine contained a log book, some fun cards to "tag" other MINIs with, a MINI pen, some road bingo cards, and, since I bought a cabrio, sun tattoos.

The second black box is for a fun MINI-only game. I can't say what's in it, I still haven't received mine.

 

I got the dealer key chain and $35 gift certificate to the MINI/BMW store at the dealership. Later I received a welcome box from MINI with a journal and a bunch of other fun stuff. The latest would be the infamous black box. Has anybody checked out MINI mail on MINIUSA's website??
