R50/53 MINI Love, the new one too?
MINI Love, the new one too?
First of all, I have to say that MINI love in NJ sucks. I wave, nod, gesture, many times to see nothing in return. At first I would keep driving and forget about the inconsiderate person, but now, after 1.5 yrs. of ownership and denials, it's getting to me. I'm hesitant when addressing an on-coming MINI. I take a look and ponder: will this person respond, or will he/she scoff at my enthusiasm?
It's all quite embarrassing. And now there's going to be a new twist! Do we wave to the NEW new MINI? Will you? What will you do if a NEW new MINI owner waves at you? ugh.

I'll ALWAYS WAVE!! I've had a few Mini owners not wave back. I like to believe that they were too buzy shifting!! New, new or old to mid old...a Mini is a Mini. Smile til they are FORCED to smile back!!
I wouldn't care if it was an old MINI, a new MINI or a Mini; I would always wave as long as I see it in time. So what if people think I'm a bit off, maybe after being wave at a few times, the other owners will catch on and start doing it themselves.
Don't give up!

I wave at everyone.. Unfortunately, I only seem to get 50% wave backs. Most times it seems the just dont see me, and are not scoffing. I dont get it, I spot every MINI a mile away, I figured all other MINI owners would do the same. My good friend owns a Jeep Rubicon, and he talks about how the Jeeps have a 'wave' thing, so I was trying to tell him that MINI's have the same. But anytime his driven with me, no one has waved back... Though right after the first time he drove with me, I saw a MINI a mile down the road and of course he waves! THe luck!!!
PS. This is in the Burlington/Billerica, MA area. There have been a couple of motorers who seem to be going the reverse direction for their work commute whom I see a few times a week, and they always wave.

Unfortunately, I get a LOT of people who don't wave back at me. Even when I do a sly "peace". And I know they see me. It's so sad. (Mean MINI owners!) These experiences have all been tempered by the one time a (must have been) new MINI couple practically bounced out of their car in their enthusiasm to wave to us. It was infectuous - we all drove home with great big grins on our faces. Those kind of people make your day!
I'll also wave at anyone who waves at me, no matter what they drive. I gotta acknowledge they know I'm in a really cool car!

I think it depends where you live. I'm in the metro NYC area and no one waves. It's like it's beneath them or something.
There was a story I told here a few days ago. I was waiting ina line of cars well back from a traffic light. Another MINI, jet black, like mine, was sitting perpendicular to me to my left, wanting to enter the line in front of me. I was looking at her, and her car. Being a motorcycle rider, I like eye contact with other drivers. She finally looked at me and asked if she could get in. There was absolutely no acknowledgment of the cars. I threw my hands out to my sides and said, 'Of course!' The reference to our commonality of the moment was apparently completely lost on her. She didn't even flinch.
New Yorkers, bah!

Why on earth would you not wave at <'06?? for all you know they could have just traded in their 02 for it.
I wave at other MINIs whenever we've had some kind of eye contact, I'm not going to wave at someone that's off in their own world and will never know about it.
If I'm passing a MINI on the freeway I'll ususally even bust out the messaging kit. The other day I was driving to SF and waved the HEY SEXY sign at a brg mini and a couple miles up he was flagging the NICE SMILE sign back at me!

I happen to have a favorable view of the new MINI!
