Boot - Will It Fit?

My job as a videographer requires me to haul around a fair amount of equipment. With our current car, 2003 Mazda Protege, everything will fit in the truck. I'm wondering if the largest piece of equipment, a 3 instrument light kit, will fit in the trunk?

If anyone would be so kind as to take a tape measure to their boot and see if this would fit without folding the seats down, I would appreciate it. He's a diagram to use as a guide:

Looks like you won't have a problem. I took the measurements with the cargo cover in place. But if you get a Cooper S, the jack may prevent the box from laying flat.

With the rear seatbacks up you have 5.3 cubic feet of cargo.

With both rear seat backs folded down, your cargo capacity increases to 23.7 cubic feet of cargo.

These cargo capacities only apply to the MINI hardtop model.

Huh?

The cargo capacities are the same in both MC and MCS.

So the standard Cooper has a flat floor where as the Cooper S has a bump or something for the jack? If you take the jack out, is the floor flat?

Nope that is innacurate. I own both a MC and MCS hardtop. The cargo floors in both models are shaped exactly the same. No bumps in the MCS, etc.

Can't see the numbers but 33" is fine. The tape measure pictured is at 34". I removed the jack pouch so the tape measure could lay flat on the floor.

The lower edge of the masking tape is 15.75" from the floor.

He's talking about if you leave the jack in the boot of the MCS (it just lays on the carpet) it will stick up and your box will lay angled.

Just take out the jack and the floor will be flat, and so will your box.

If your still confused, I'll go take a pic.

My wife and I are absolutely blown away! Thank you very much!!! How did you get those pictures posted so fast? It's almost like we actually have our new MINI sitting in our garage!

So it looks like it will fit just fine. I can put the rest of the gear on the back seats (or fold them down if necessary).

Thank you very much to everyone who responded! (we're still in shock!)

As long as it will fit and not slide around. Sounds like it will work fine with or without the jack.

Thanks again!

No problem

Take the case in question to a local dealer and confirm the fit. I'm worried about the metal mounting point for the cargo net. You mention that you're a videographer. So I'm assuming the case is made out of aluminum. The metal hook may damage the case.

My jack fits in the passenger side wall compartment in the boot. There is nothing on the floor except carpet. Do the newer models not do this?

In my '05 MCS the jack lays on the floor in a pouch with hooks attached where the boot net is attached in the pictures posted above. Just like the previous posters mentioned.

yeah I forgot about the jack stored inside the pouch on the left side of the boot. You can always take it out and put it aside when setting up bulky objects inside the boot.

my jack stays stored with all my car stuff at home. What good would it really do you in an emergency anyways? What're you gonna do, jack it up and look at the punctured tire that you can't replace cuz there's no spare?

Since I assume you still have roadside assistance is kind of a moot point to carry it, doesn't it?

This is hysterical! I have driven 55K without a spare in the car. Never had a flat and never looked in the jack bag. I figured it just contained some munchies to keep me happy until roadside assistance arrived!

That's a good point. I never thought about it.

I think I'll take my jack out when I get home and leave it in the garage. It is a bit of a pain when you want to put stuff back there and can't lay it flat.

That's the funniest thing I've heard in a while! Thanks!

So it sounds like the light kit will fit just fine. Thanks again to everyone who replied.
