Accidentally Turning on Heated Seats

Is there a way to disable the heated seats until I want them? I keep accidentally bumping the little activation buttons between the seats. It's summer and my rear end is warm enough on sun warmed leather thank you very much!

I looked in the owners manual and did some searches on NAM but couldn't find anything.

Thanks in advance.

I just brought her home yesterday and I'm having a blast.

you could try pulling the fuse out of the box by the drivers left leg

I know someone on here installed protected switches to replace the little buttons. (I think it was either MSFITOY or MINITOR)

http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductD...number=5012104

Makes you feel like you're arming the heat seaking missiles in your MINI.

Personaly, pulling the fuse sounds like the simplest and stupidest solution. It is really easy to bump the switches; put a bottle of water between the seats while you are driving and you have about a 90% chance of getting a warm bun.

what's funny is that after I cycle I turn on the heated seats even in the summer to keep my lower back from spasm......I like the fuse idea.....easy to do and easy to change back...

Otherwise known as simple and stupid.... The best kind of mod in my opinion!

The heated seats have 2 settings, toast and toastier, so I dunno if a single throw toggle will work. If it does, then you may only end up with one setting. D'oh! Get a 2x throw toggle...what a bone head I am!

As everyone has already indicated, pulling the fuse seems to be the easiest fix

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I suppose I'll pull the fuse but it seems odd to me that Mini would have chosen the push button especially given where they placed it. It would have been cooler had they used three position toggle switches.

Oh well. Thanks again.

Cool! I'll be on the lookout for your cool blue cabrio. I keep trying to think up reasons to drive somewhere. Hmmm how about Target at Graceland...how about Worthington....now south to the OSU campus....

I have been known to hit the windshield washers when turning corners aggresively...

But I have never hit the butt warmers!

No covers for the existing buttons? That would be cool. I'd rather not replace the switch...

Loop a rubber band around the switches, under the buttons. Prevents them from being bumped on and can easily be 'reversed'.

Whoa...that's what you'd call very aggressive driving! Fortunately it's nothing like that...first it was a dropped 1-liter soda bottle. Then it was a CD case set in a bad position. The third time I was reaching for the mirror adjuster 'joystick'.

I figure if I've inadvertently turned them on 3 times in less than 80 miles, then it's going to be a problem for me. Of course your mileage may vary though...

I've hit mine releasing the parking brake a few times, get to the end of the street and

I've got a non functioning passenger side heated seat, when the dealer takes out the heating part I can ask them to send it to you

I'd say next time you go to the dealer ask your tech if they can show the under seat connection and unplug it then when the cold winds fire up just plug it back in;VERY important to get the right plug though as the other connections are for airbags and seatbelts. I don't think it would need programing, your tech would know if it will work. I'm in to get fixed up on the 17th I can ask while I'm there.

It would seem that pulling the fuse would be a simpler solution. Especially if you are trying to get the seats to heat up in the rain (or sleet, or other inclement weather condition)....

Pretty much same thing, only I've been known to lose a tiny fuse, and the wires under the seat won't go anywhere

On a MINI with heated seats, there are 4 connectors under each seat:

Blue and yellow for air bag and seatbelt, and
Black and black for the seat and seat-back heater elements.

Obviously leave the blue and yellow connectors alone.

Disconnect the black ones to disable the warmers. I still like the heated seat-back during the summer for when my lower back is sore, so I only disconnect the seat-bottom connector.

If you want both disconnected, much simpler to just pull the fuse.

Thats a good idea!
I was also thinking of cutting out 2 round pieces out of a sheet of rubber, then making a slit in the round cutouts to slip under the buttons. Im sure i can find something in the Dollar store

I've never turned on the heated seats by mistake! I'd suggest that you secure all the stuff in the MINI before motoring. And I love Greatbear's minimalist suggestion of the rubberbands...very clever and very affordable!

Rubber hose washer and cut one side so you can push it underneath the button. Or just some sort of rubber washer.
