Ohhhhh sexy.

Did you weigh it? I wonder how much lighter it is than the JCW exhaust.

Fuel filter replacement
Hi, folks.

I just replaced the fuel filter in my 2004 MC40. I have the inspection plate off after installation to test for leaks (there are none visible, nor can I smell any fuel).

I've set the key in position 2 a couple of times to prime the pump (which I can hear working) but the car won't start. It's turning over fine and a couple of times while attempting to start it I've heard clicking coming from the fuel filter area (but not every time).

What did I do wrong? Should I simply wait and try again and is it possible that I've disconnected something during the replacement process? Thanks for your help.

I'd try priming it a few more times and let it sit for 30 min. Try again.

Check the connector on the coil pack. Might not be getting any spark at the plugs.

Scratch what I said about the coil pack unless you did work near it and had to unplug for some reason. My money is on the fuel needs more priming since you did the pump and filter. The lines may have bled out into the tank while you were pulling the pump. Keep a charge on the battery, prime a few times and try starting. Do the whole process a couple times. If it doesn't start after doing it 10 more times then it might be time to look somewhere else.

Took it out to C&C. Lots of positive comments.

Sorry, just so happy with how these wheels turned out. Why not bump the thread with a little MC40 ****?

RE: Replaced fuel filter and car won't start

I would crack the fuel line at the fuel rail and bled out the air... and if needed maybe use a spray bottle to atomize fuel into the intake to get the car started and see if I could run it past the air.

BUT ... this may not be the preferred method.

Best of luck

Read this carefully....
https://www.pelicanparts.com/techart...eplacement.htm

This particular paragraph:
"Take the upper cover and carefully line up the tabs on it (it can only go in one way) with the tabs on the lower filter housing. Take care to make sure the upper cover is directly seated on the filter element. If it isn't, THE CAR WON'T START. We found this out the hard way after re-assembling the fuel system. Once the upper cover is seated, rotate it clockwise until it stops. This will lock it in place."

Jason, slick exhaust. Was that aftermarket or custom-built? It would be interesting if you could post an audio file so we could all hear the difference.

It's a custom :D The audio was recorded with an iPhone mounted on the CD slot. It's probably not the optimal setup, but it gives you a rough idea of what it sounds like.

Just picked up #840 from Wyoming
I just bought MC40 #840 a little over a week ago. Been cleaning it out, since the previous owner had it stored in his garage under a cover. It only had 33,500 miles on it, till I drove it back to Oregon. Getting the Supercharger pulley and intake done next Friday. Totally stock, the Racing numbers were missing, so I will need to get a set of those.
