This is one of my favorite threads even though I don't own an MC40.

Maybe one day I will!

Anyway, was just browsing the webz and came across a cool toolbox and thought I'd add it here.

Quote: Call into Sales team and let them know what wheel you want they can try to help you out on price. I cannot adjust pricing myself.
Matt at ECS was absolutely no help on price.

To all MC40 owners: I have a spare set of hood decals (33 EJB license plate and 40th MC Rally) that I'll let go for $30 plus shipping (PayPal or Venmo). Anyone interested?

Not sure if my Mini is an MC40 or not
i bought this and it was billed as a Mini MC40. The claim is that this is 528 of 1000 and 1 of 100 that were sport tuned.

Contacted mini international and the rep took the last 7 of my vin and said this is simply a chili red r53. Said it came with black seats and space grey dash and doors.

Seller insists it came from Utah and was registered as 528 - I found that on MC40.com which is an unofficial site.

How can I find out for sure? ... or have I? Either way I’m happy with price and car.

I put pics in on my profile page here

Thanks in advance.

If you want to check on the possible authenticity of a car that may be a MC40, review the car and what it has in it...
  • Chili Red with the signature white roof
  • red leather-trimmed sports seats (unique to the MC40)
  • John Cooper Works full Carbon Fiber Dash,
  • Auxiliary Driving Lights
  • Chrome Grill,
  • Chrome Mirrors
  • Boot Trim
  • Two-toned R90 17? wheels (unique at the time) fitted with all season runflats
  • Auxiliary Gauges
  • Matte chrome gear **** with a special inlay (unique to the MC40)
  • Floor mats with unique MC40 inlay
If it has these items more than likely it is/was a MC40 ... The seats are the big indicator, ONLY the MC40 had this color combination.

Best of luck,

I have all those things but mini international says it’s not listed as an mc40

is there any other way or is that the best I’ll get?

Looks like an MC40 to me. Accessory gauges, JCW Carbon dash, seats, GB decal and evidence of the 33 EJB on the hood amongst the other things mentioned by the poster above. VIN on an MC40 will not show in the option list as this was not a factory option. So you wouldn't be able to verify by the VIN.

Also, nice that it has the JCW kit. Seems like a nice MC40.

Yes, it looks like a MC40. I have seen people swap parts into cars to make JCW and MC40s. Give me the VIN and i can check.

@ECSTuning How would the VIN help here? I wasn't aware that the VIN would show any options? Would like to know if there is a way to tell for certain from the VIN.

I can get internal information sometimes if I am lucky. I also have contacts within MINIUSA for years, well since about 2004.

The MC40 was a dealer-add only option ($7,000 extra) and would have been installed at the dealership on a Chili Red/White delivery. The MC40 designation will not show up in the VIN which is the reason MINI International is telling you something different. I would say that with the addition of the JCW upgrades, this is a really special MC40 and a great find. It's a shame the unique 528 number plate is missing.

Soon to be MC40 owner
Hello! My dad has been the owner of an MC40 for about 8 or so years now, and I'm about to buy it from him. We're working on replacing the clutch and some other things right now, but we're also looking for the decals and a way to find out what number we are. The car is half apart right now so I'll post pictures in a week or so. Has anyone come up with a way to tell which number out of 1000 you are? Our plate with the number wasn't with the car when we bought it, and I would love to get the car looking like it should.

Decals (hood and quarter panels) can be found at Firestorm Graphix. They also sell the magnetic number plates for the doors. Word of caution: the license place decal sold at Way Motor Works is not the correct typeface (see the post above for the correct one). The MC40 package was a dealer add-on so nothing in your VIN will provide the information (?/1000) you're seeking. It's possible that the dealer (if you have that info) that sold the car might have records to help identify the limited-edition number for you, particularly if they only sold one MC40. If they sold more than one, you might be able to get there via the process of elimination. Your other issue is that the limited-edition number plates are no longer available. Good luck.

Thanks! I'll look into Firestorm Graphix. I've contacted the Dealer and originally all they told me was that it is definitely an MC40. I just sent them an email to see if they can find out what number it is. Does anyone know if the limited edition number plates are just laser engraved? If I can find out what number I have and can get a good image of the plate then I might be able to find someone I know who has a laser engraver.

I found this GB badge, any idea if it's any good?
