The dealers in California that sell at MSRP are: East Bay MINI in NorCal, and South Bay MINI (where I bought mine) and Long Beach MINI. Both South Bay and Long Beach are in L.A.

Dave, from what I've heard, most of the CA dealers that sell at MSRP have pretty long waiting lists. Is that still the case?

Matthew: If that's still true, and you need to get your hands on a MINI sooner, try going out of state. There are several sellers in the Midwest and even on the East Coast that can ship (in covered trucks!), or you can make a fun roadtrip out of it by flying out and driving your car back.

Lots of people on NAM have had good experiences with Classic MINI (Mentor, OH). There are more dealers, but I can't keep them all straight -- check out the Vendor Directory for a list of MINI dealers, as well as after-market parts & accessories and custom MINI tuners.

Since the MINI is smog-legal in all 50 states, it doesn't matter where you buy it. I'm sure that the folks @ Classic have lots of experience helping CA buyers with all of the DMV paperwork, etc. Just remember that you'll have to pay sales tax in CA, not OH (or NY, or MO....) if you decide to bring in an out-of-state car.

Hope that helps.

South Bay has a fairly short wait to put in an order (it took me 3 months to from when I got on the list until I got my MINI and a month of that was because my options hadn't started production yet). I believe Long Beach is in the 4-6 month range. I'm not sure about East Bay.

If you go to South Bay contact Jennifer Osborne. She is the Motoring Manager there.

MINI of Long Beach is in L.A.? That's weird.

EDIT, never mind...I'm assuming you mean Long Beach (the city) is in L.A. county. My dumb mistake.

Try Motorwerks MINI in Minneapolis. 6 weeks from order to pick up. MSRP with floor mats. Call Gretchen. I know that they sell a lot of cars for California. Fly in/drive out or delivery arrangements.

Or OK City. Or Albuquerque. Or Scottsdale. Or Denver. Or Salt Lake. I think the waits are a little less at the first two.

If U want a gen 1 06 tho U better hustle, they're about to cut off production and get gen 2 rolling in the not too distant future.... the 07s will be upon us before we know it. Jimbo

I would happily suggest Richard or any of the MA's at Dreyer & Reinbold MINI of Indianapolis. Besides you can complete breakin as you motor back to Cali...

Contact Debbie Lind at Mini of Murray (Salt Lake City). Great people to deal with and they sell to out of state buyers often. I bought our first Mini from them and flew out to drive it home to Portland, Or.

Just bought an MCS at MSRP from South Motors today. They're located in Miami. Easy to deal with, bought mine from Francesco.

I believe if you order from MD, you are looking at about 8 weeks to get a cooper from either MINI of Towson or Tate MINI in Annapolis. That's what i did for mine. For MSRP.

Good question.

We got ours at the St. Louis Mini dealership at MSRP.

Being a Ford and GMC owner, this was a tough pill to swallow.

But once we realized this is the norm, we got over it.

Sorry for the confusion, I meant the 06 as (end of) gen1 and the 07 as (start of) gen 2.

buying at MSRP and having a long wait list are apples and oranges.

I was also not pleased about paying MSRP. But that went away on the drive home from delivery.

What isn't tolerable is paying over MSRP.

I bought mine in Maryland 5 weeks ago at $500 under MSRP. Took one off the lot, probably an ordered car that the buyer backed out of. Not exactly as I would've ordered it, but close enough.
