Supercharger Problem
I have a 2006 Cooper S and i let my friend who owns a 2003 Cooper S drive it, he said that he can feel that my supercharger comes on, on its own whereas his doesn't. I dont exactly understand the problem but I need to know if my friend can change his 2003 supercharger for a new one, how much it'll cost etc, etc.
Thanx Everyone!!

First, please get you sig a little closer to the site gudielines, so we can all read your responses easily.
Second, earlier model Supercharger By Pass Valves have been known to need some tweaking for better preformance, so adjusting the BPV screw and/or a VGS mod and he will feel the effects of the SC much sooner. If you do a search for BPV you will find a good deal on methods for adjust the BPV also I know at least DT makes an aftermarket BPV, or he could even swap it out with a newer model BPV (don't know about fittment but the look the same I think it was just internals adjusted). The SC isn't at fault just the unit controlling when it is on.

Thank to Motoringfile for the Owner's manual link.
Link to Owner's lounge where the Owner's manual resides.

*laughs now about the size of the sig but then gets back to the topic...*
My friend said the same thing about his 03 MCS compared to my 06. I think it is just the gearbox that makes the difference.
Also, I tried to search for it but haven't found anything: is it normal to not hear the supercharger during the breakin period? I test drove another car and my MA drove it at first (since I'm not pro with manual yet!) and you could hear the super charger when he was shifting gears. But I asked him to drive mine around the block with me in the passenger seat (thinking that me being new to driving standard, I was just to granny-ish to push the car to hear the SC...) nope. No supercharger sound. Should I be worried?

Just put a pully and CAI/HAI/AGS on... then you'll REALLY hear the supercharger.
Before I had my Helix CAI put on, I sometimes struggled to hear the SC on my stock MINI. They did a good job of deadening a lot of the whine with the stock airbox. If your supercharger wasn't working, you'd know it because you wouldn't have much pickup and go at all!
((my apologies for having to side scroll to read this... thanks to the RIDICULOUS SIG PIC!!! apparently NAM has a new feature, "Save Desktop to Signature"... good lord.))

What's the issue?
If he's not getting boost, and you aren't hearing lots of grinding of parts, then the SC is spinning and the boost is being lost elsewhere. If the BPV isn't closing at all, you'll have a dog of a car.
FWIW, the SOUND of the SC isn't the key it's doing what it should be, it's the MANIFOLD PRESSURE! So use something that can check for boost. This could be a vacuum/boost guage, or some sort of OBD-II data logger.
I don't think you all are using the correct diagnostics to check for what you want to measure....

But like you said, if one really wants to know get some hard data (the OBD would be good to check b/w cars).
