Identifying yourself as a MINI owner

When you're away from your MINI and see one driving by, don't you wish for some way to signal to the driver that you are a MINI owner too?

I sure do.

Here's my proposal: hold up your hand using the manual alphabet sign for "M". Make a fist by tucking your thumb under you fingers, but allow the tip of the thumb to protrude over the pinky. See the attached graphic.

Any other ideas?

That's good, I like that . I was in my other vehicle yesterday and saw a mini, yes, I too want to signal, I will try that next time.

The only problem is, not everyone who drives a MINI is connected to NAM... or any MINI community for that matter. So while those people may still wave MINI-2-MINI, they may not understand the "M".

lol

...just something to think about...

Hey, I just tried that and hurt myself!!!!!

Not a bad idea...I guess if something like this were to be come universal, NAM is a great place to start. Of course, MINI would have to promote such a thing, too, but stranger things have happened. It's kinda like that VW han-gesture-thing the guy does in the Jetta commercials...which also looks painful now that I think of it!!!:impatient

Something like this would come in handy (no pun) when you're in a rental or other non-MINI, but it'd probably wind up being another reason to get hurt feelings when not reciprocated. We can't seem to get universal agreement on waving, so who knows.

It'd be sure a shame to try this and have it "misinterpreted" somehow.

I think someone might misinterpret the gesture and shoot me

Yea, it looks like a gang sign.

Almost every other MINI I've seen has waved back to me.... but it seems that I see more of them when I'm driving my Blazer (even though I hardly drive it). It's hard to suppress the wave-reflex, though, so I probably look like an idiot waving to MINIs from my Blazer. At least other people don't see me when I reach for the Blazer's ash tray to try to close the windows.

I dont think you have to do anything to identify a MINI driver. At least for the enthusiasts they ALL sort of have the same look and feel

Scenario ... a MINI drives by ... Just look for ...
  • bulging eyes following the car
  • ears thrust forward listening for the tell-tale sounds of an aftermarket exhaust
  • jabbering mouth shouting to the passenger all the packages he can identify on the car but only in acronyms (e.g., CR/W, Pkg2, R90s, etc.)
  • silly grin, ear to ear
  • followed by a long discussion with the passenger on the cornering benefits of his car vice the one that just passed by!

I think it cuts a bit too close to a "limp wrist" gesture. People will wonder whether you are making a statement about yourself or about them!

How about blinking one headlight ???

How hard would it be to design a circuit and switch to flash one headlight? A "Mini Wink" ??? -Bob
