Knock on _____

I was thinking. Since we all here are pretty enthused about our MINIs, I had an idea! Instead of saying, _______, knock on wood, I am going to start saying ______, knock on carbon fiber! I dont know why, it just sound right for the MINI, and other car enthusiasts! Whos with me?

I really an going to start saying it, knock on CF,
William

Kinda makes you wonder where the whole "knock on wood" thing started anyway. Probably some horse-drawn wagon enthusiast/dork...so I'm thinking updating to cf is long overdue.

Don't mind me being the nerd but I think I know where "knock on wood" is from. Back in the day when ship building was very new, you never really knew if the ship you were about to board would hold up on the high seas. This was mainly due to the fact that wooden nail type fasterners were being used at the time and not iron nails. In order to test the strength of your ship you knocked on the ship hence "knock on wood" to see if it would withstand a beating.

I'm such a dork

No, I think you're on to something. What's the most approproate automotive update? Knock on carbon fiber? Knock on steel? Knock on air bag? Knock on ECU?

How many times have you seen someone try to "knock on wood" and look around in vain for wood when there's none to be found!!

Knock on dash, knock on ****, knock on wheel.

It's probably the closest thing you can reach while motoring.

Doesn't this remind anyone of why some people say you "kick your tires" before you leave?

I kept thinking of the Top Gear Bugatti race where in order to lower the spoiler you must do some "checks" first, Clarkson tapped the tire and speed of. "Kick the tire and light the fires!" But I like my MINI so I don't plan on licking or knocking it anytime soon.
