Locking gas cap for 2006 MC

hi, where can i get a locking gas cap for my mini cooper 2006 non-s?

its not people stealing gas its people dumping sugar in my gas tank that has me worried

i'm willing to perform any and all mods nessesary as long as it doesn't involve a padlock and sits flush against the exterior of the car

motorized would be better though

or does the mc already come with a fuel door lock but i just don't know about it?

thanks for the time

Just lock your car. The lid locks when the car is locked, which means you can't get to the gas cap to open it with the car itself locked.

That's what I was thinking, but isn't that only for the S gas cap? The cabrio has the standard cap too and since we have one on order... I'd like to hear from any cabrio owners or MC owners about the locking gas cap...

You are all good, you already have a locking cap s or non-s.

My 2005 mc (not s) gas cap locks along with the doors. So much better than having to remember to pull some lever when I get to the gas station.

ok, thanks for the quick replies everyone

the locking gas cap occurs on EVERY 2005-2006 mini right?

it wasn't some option or park of some package that i had to order right?

assuming if my car was the most basic config there was - no options at all

thanks again

It should have it... All you need to do in order to test it is get out of your car, lock the doors, and then try and open the lid... And it doesn't matter if you have a MC or MCS...

Sugar in your gas tank?

People really do that?

What, do you live on a college campus?

That's crappy!

Why do some mini's have fuel doors and some exposed gas caps? Does this locking feature apply to just the caps as well? TIA!

The mcs's door just looks like a gas cap. The real cap is the same as the mc and they all lock. Just try it.

But, but, but,,,...what if someone wanted to use a crowbar to rip the outer door off, then there is the cap without a lock.....,,, --I think what's really needed here is some sort of giant chastity belt that will prevent anyone from f***ing with his car. Or did I misunderstand the question? Where's Austin Powers when we need him?

you can buy the hamman gas cap from minimania.com it has a key that is used to lock it. Only problem is that it costs $750 bucks.

Sugar you shouldn't have to worry about too much, since it won't dissolve in gasoline, and will settle to the bottom of the tank. Other chemicals, however, would be a far greater issue.

fancy that. learn something new everyday about this car. I did not know the cap locked when you locked your car. Here I was thinking I needed to consider adding this feature... thanks!

Heh...when I was much younger, the ex-girlfriend of the guy that I was dating poured CORN SYRUP into my oil reservoir! It happened in the middle of a VERY cold Ohio winter and I was in the habit of starting the car to warm up & going back into the house. It didn't take long for the engine to blow...it weren't pretty, neither! The engine compartment looked like someone had poured liquid caramel all over it.
