My wife and I are about to order a Cooper S. She picked Electric Blue with a white roof. I am glad that she is involved with the process so I am going along with it, plus I think it is 'electric' looking.

I have two thoughts on it though:
1. I am secure in my manhood, but is it a feminine color?
2. Is it a color that will withstand the test of time or in a few years will it be, 'why did they ever offer that color'?

I appreciate your thoughts, especially anyone that has an electric blue.

Brett.

I was in a similar situation as you when I ordered my Mini. However, my wife wasn't really involved too much in the decision to order the car. She knew I was looking at Minis, and I told her I wanted the yellow. When we saw the car in person, we both liked red, but I was still partial to yellow. She started to push a little for red (but she also liked the yellow), and I wanted her to have ownership in the decision...but that is a slippery slope.

There were some questions about some other features that I wanted, and whether she thought they were necessary (they probably weren't...but then again I bought the car itself and that probably wasn't necessary). I finally decided that if it is going to be my car, I better get exactly what I want. She bought into that, and I got the yellow with the NAV system and all three packages. I didn't get leather (got leatherette) and I didn''t get the high-end radio. I "conceded" these issues, but really didn't think they were worth the extra money.

I like the blue. It isn't feminine. And the color will hold up (I think). But, get what you really want if it'll be your car. In a year, you'll regret it if you don't like the color.

I have also ordered the Electric Blue. I owned a red one in 1973. A color is a personal thing. Unlike the Miata, I don't see the MINI as a "chic" car nor is electric blue a "chic" color. I am 53 years old and wouldn't care anyway...I know what I am and what I like.

Hey Brettco, I have the Dark Silver exclusive to the S just like your electric blue. Although I like my Dk Silver, I've seen many electric blue and I think the color is exceptional! And as far as feeling that it might be a feminine color, not! The mini is a masculine car period. No matter what color. Take for example the VW bug now that is a feminine car no matter what color you have. One of the reasons I took the ordered the silver was that a friend of mine who works in body repair said he thought it would be easier to match the paint on the Dk Silver as opposed to the Blue. I think you made a great choice...Good Luck with it!!!

I don't feel the Electric blue is feminine. I will be ordering mine in a couple weeks, it will be Electric blue with black top. It is a very sharp color. Also brought a friend on my test drive and he really liked the color as well. Enjoy the car with no worries.

>>The mini is a masculine car period.<<

Umm... I think you just started a nice thread.
I do not agree with you at all. a mini and a MINI are not masculine cars. Yes, guys drive them and yes GurLs drive them. it's a great car and always has been. It's a car with personality, style, attitude, fun, great handling, a great rally car, a conversation starter...the list could continue for a long time.

Between the Cooper and the Cooper S, there might be a few that say the S is more masculine, but it's a matter of personal opinion.

Color - it can be hard to pick the color, I think just about everyone had a few questions regarding the color until they did finally pick, but whatever you choose, it's from the heart and you will love your MINI no matter what.

I don't think Electric Blue is particularly feminine. I think the color is definitely best suited for the raging extrovert (in reality, or trying to get out )

Also, being that EB is an exclusive MCS color, means that it is intended as a more muscular color.

I love this notion that the Mini and the Miata are chic cars.

They are two of the truest, most unforgiving throwbacks to the classic sportscars of the 60s available. What are the male cars again? Mustangs, Camaros? Spare me.

Women might drive Minis and Miatas. These are women worth meeting. Who are the women driving Lotus 7s? Emma Peal.

I am also on my 2nd classic mini, which is for sale if anyone is interested and both have been red, so I am welcoming the change in color. Plus our other 2 cars are green, that is why my wife chose a brighter color.

Thanks for all of the thoughts!

Brett.

I had the same concern as well with the color. I ordered Electric Blue, because I love blue, and I liked the color changes of the electric blue depending on the light. The lighter colors more often high dirt better than the darker colors. Since I was worried about the lighter color and the possible baby blue look that can sometimes appear under some light, I decided to go with a black roof, with black stripes. It darkens the color some, and also appears to be very rare. I have seen a lot of electric blues (actually a lot of minis in general) but none with a black roof.

Quit worrying , will ya ? Worrying only causes wrinkles.
Get the MINI and welcome to the family !
If it bothers you THAT much, forget the MINI and order a H2 in black or camo.

See . . . no more wrinkles !

Relax, get the MINI, there will be no regrets.

Later

It took me (manly me, that is) NO time to settle on Lectric Bloo. It's obnoxious, to be sure, but it's not as candy as it looks in the brochures. The white roof really sets it off nicely.

My wife ALSO had some say, and she convinced me that Lectric Bloo was okay. Having said all that, I do get compliments on the color from everyone, and it adds to the toy/fun factor if you ask me.

Enjoy!

What is wrong with being a little lady like?
When i want to feel special I slip into my electric blue lingerie
while I cut the grass, wash the car or play with the kids.

Since pure silver is the fastest color, I would say that electric blue would be safer...if speed and safety are relative.

When it approached time to actually place my order, I had plenty of time (nearly 9 months) to try to choose, my final two options/choices were EB/W or LY/W. For the longest time I was partial to the EB/W. Then at the last minute, I saw a LY/W in BMW's garage and fell in love with it.

LW is a much brighter color and stands out more than the EB. If I'm going to be in a small car (I'ved only owned small autos: Datsun 310, Chevy S-10, Nissan Senta, Dodge Neon) , I'm tired of people NOT seeing me. So the LY fit the bill for me!

I don't want to curb your decision at all, EB is beautiful! But I do know that when I went with my Mom to the dealer, she LOOOOOVVEEEED the electric blue. And she also really liked, "those wheels that look like snowflakes!"

I think electric blue looks awesome. If you like it get it, who cares what other people think, ultimately you paid for the car.

I don´t think its a chic´s color at all, though I´d say it´s a younger person´s color (say below 30).

One of the things I find interesting about the Mini is that it cannot be classified as either a girl´s (like beetles) or guy´s (like gt mustangs) car. I honestly find it a marketing success to be able to attract both men and women with the same car.

And to actually get women to care so much about the car to write in these forums, that is really great. ( I´ve never "seen" a girl in the 2k1 civic forums)

Everybody loves Mini

I'd say this is almost correct, but not quite. I think it might tend to be a color for the young-at-heart. Actual age is irrelevant.

BTW, I don't think EB is "girly." Especially not with the black!

I think it's curious that someone would think electric blue is femine. I always thought it a very masculine color! Life is good when you drive a MINI, no matter what color.

    Good luck with your decision!!!

    Peace,

Personally, it's the best color out of them all. Sadly it's only on the S =(

However, look at it this way. If you've noticed ladies have dug the colour, that means more ladies would be approaching you about the car. There's nothing more masculine than be surrounded by women.

I think picking the color was the toughest part of ordering the car.

Honestly when I began giving the specs on the order - I was only 2/3 of the way certain and I came {} this close to pulling an audible on the roof color.

Mini of Sterling has an electric blue mini with a black roof and black stripes (like the one on this thread) sitting on some grass and when I say grass I mean a foot of snow. First off, I think it looks great. The sun had come out and you know why they called it electric blue. I swear if I had come back a few hours later the snow around it would have been melted by the glare.

The scheme looks great, but it is definitely a look at me - but not directly at me - color. There's no stealth in that mini. Then again, who buys a mini for stealth?

I finally ordered an indi blue S with white top and mirrors, stripe and wheels. I think the white wheels have a matchbox effect on the car. Other than that, it's dead butch. Sunlight played a big part in my decision. I expect (ok I pray) I am moving to Miami soon and think the white roof (apart from being classic) will also help reflect heat more than a black top. In Miami, I would need to be wearing shades just to approach the Electric Blue.

One frustration I had is the limited color range on the S. I would probably have gone with Cosmos Black on an mcs. The idea of Darth Mini would be too fun to pass up but I didn't like the flat black available on the S.
