Random question about the xenons...

This is pointless, and has probably been covered somewhere in the depths of NAM many times, but i'm curious.

Are the xenon lights on the MINI self-leveling? I havent had the opportunity to drive a MINI at night yet.

I remember when I drove my buddy's '06 Audi A4 at night, the xenons did a cool little dance when you first turned them on. Does the MINI do this, or no?

Yup. And anytime you're in a parking lot with other people around they give you a funny look when you start up in the dark

Here's a link to a 5MB movie that shows the start-up sequence.

I like it too. It looks like a camera flash going off.

The leveling feature compensates for rear passengers and/or cargo. The sensor is mounted in the rear suspension.

The reason for self leveling is to keep the xenons out of the eyes of on-coming traffic. Weight distribution is one factor, so is speeding up, and braking, as the car lifts and dips. The sensors are on the front and rear control arms.

I'm pretty sure its a federal law in the states too. Thats why most aftermarket kits are illegal.

Worried about STOLEN HIDs, check this out ... http://www.rennteam.com/showflat.php...&page=0#211776

That's one nice things about having DRL on...in the garage I get to see the light dip and come back up. I watched my wife back out of the garage today for that very reason.
