500 miles on my 06 JCW...Initial thoughts

Every time I walk out to my car, I feel like I'm getting ready to drive something special! I just love the look, the wheels, the interior......they just seem so right. This is one of the best engines I have ever driven. It's soooo smooth, with absolutely no hesitation (lag) or harshness. The power seems like it's always there, no matter what gear I'm in. In fact on the highway, I don't even need to downshift. I live a bit outside of the city, so it's not hard to find a twisty country road to attack. Unlike most of my previous cars, which usually handled good but you always felt like you were just hanging on, this thing feels like the harder I push it in a turn the more it hunkers down and bites in. And the LSD is a must, regardless of trim choice, it's amazing how well it works!!

So only 750 miles to go until the break in period is done. I've been pretty good about shifting no higher than 4500. Sometimes I may have pushed 5000 and on a couple of occasions I couldn't help myself to a little red-lining , but all in all i've been good.

I've only install a couple of interior mods: the rear seat pull straps for pulling the seat back up easier and the chrome door buttons to fill in the holes that Mini left on the door:

Glad to hear you're enjoying your MINI. I've had mine for just shy of a year, and it still brings a smile to face when ever I drive it.

What color did you go with?

One bad thing about crossing-over the run-in period: your MPG takes a real hit due to the growing weight of a post run-in foot on the throttle!

Interestingly enough, my engine's performance didn't really reach it best until I had about 12,000 - 14,000 miles on the car. I think it must have something to do with an engine with close tolerances "loosening-up" over time.

so great to hear!

I'm so psyched to hear that you're tearing it up. I can't wait to take delivery of my JCW! If you didn't check out the rev limiter thread, take a look - someone accidentally hit the rev limiter during the break-in period & most everyone responding said not to worry about it.

Get those miles out of the way & open it up.

best of luck

Well, um, I mean - did you get any pm's regarding that rev limiter situation? Um, like stuff that wasn't posted on the thread. Yeah, that's what I meant. It must've come out differently.

Every time I walk out to my MCS I know I'm about to drive something special and a hell of a lot of fun. Glad you're enjoying! This MINI is my favorite ride in 25 years of driving things.

Nah, no pm's. I just figured since everyone thought I didn't do any damage I'd open her up proper a couple of times, lol.....

Just got to the break in number and been having a great time since.

The car is super quick and responsive as hell both engine and suspension.

Lane changes on the highway are razer sharp.

I agree ... best ride yet of all cars owned hands down.

JCW all the way!

I am still grinning after 122K miles, 104K with the JCW and I drove like I stole from day. What break-in period whats that never heard of it, never did it for my bike either and both still run and work fine. With the exception of a starter which was a incorrect diagnosis and a MAP sensor changes this past New Year the engine is still untouched, no clutch problems or any other real issues, this car was tracked 37 days last year, 9 days so far this year and still kicking ***.

Still loving my JCW, no complaints about the money I spent for the upgrade, its been worth every mile driven
