Euro Plate Info

I have been looking at getting a front Euro Plate for our MINI. I have found some info in the GB DMV site. As you can see in the image the first 2 letters are for the place of registry O is for Oxford you can use OA-X for your first 2. the next 2 numbers are the age identifier. I will use 56 because it is for 2006. The last 3 letters are random.

I doubt that you can order proper Euro plates from the DMV. I'm sure all the US ones are "fake" Euro plates.

What I gather is that in GB once you get your number you can have anyone make your plate as long as they are approved comapny.

Yeah, sure. So long as you can prove it will be a legally registered car in the UK and you have all the supporting documentation to prove it. If you're trying to order official UK/ECU plates for a US registered vehicle just for the "cool" factor it ain't gonna fly; not from the DMV anyway All the cars you see over here with "Euro" plates are sporting lookalike "knock-offs".

You don't quite understand. I don't give a crap if is a knock off or a knock on. I live in FL and I can put just about anything on the front of my car. What I'm trying to say is this website gives guidance on how the numbering system works over there so if someone wanted to get a plate that looks like it could belong they would get the scheme correct. And yes these plates would be illegal in the UK because the number is more then likely taken. But perfectly fine here.

We ordered Euro plates @ the mall in Bradenton, FL. They look just like those that you would buy if you were in europe. You can get your lettering up to 11 or so letters/numbers. Included the blue euro band with the GB or other country designation on it. Took about two week to arrive.

Not always true! Lots of people that where in Europe of the official Euro plates because that's what is used to register your vehicles. Instead of the country that you're in it has the USA on it in th blue area.

In my opinion the states should allow companies to make some "Official" long plates for vehicles that where purchased overseas and then brought to the states.

I drove with my long plates for a few months when I got back from Germany and they look so much better and plus everyone kept looking both because of the car and the plates.

Here in Germany the first two letters are the city of registration. After that, it is open for anything. Most people will reserve the initials of the first and last name and then birthdate of a loved one to further personalize it. I would imagine that the UK is close to the same.

Living in Germany I get the cool Euro style plates. I wish the US would move to that style. They look so much better.
