How long did it take you
to get use to owning a MINI???
I just picked up my MINI yesterday and I feel like a kid in the candy store - she's parked in my driveway and I couldn't stop going to the front door and looking at her! Last night - I couldnt' sleep for thinking about the car. And driving it - oh my - I loved my drive in this morning (though I had to keep checking my speed cause it's so easy to go fast
). It is so much more responsive than what I'm use to and I love being in the car (HB/W with black leatherette/anthracite headliner/blue dash - it's like being in a cocoon - I love it!)
Do you eventually get use to it? You must, right? cause I'm going to have to get some sleep one of these days!!

I am almost done with my second month of ownership and the aura hasn't worn off yet. I am coming to hate business trips that keep me from driving Maggie for a few days or a week. Still coming to grips with the attention that the car brings (in my commuter parking lot someone actually left a men's tie handing from the outside mirror last night !! Some kind of offering? Are they assuming the owner is female?) but it is nice to get waves and acknowledgments from other MINI owners.
The big realization that my time with the car has given me is that I really don't feel like I am in a tiny car (coming from an SUV) - but a highly-maneuverable vehicle capable of putting me where I want to be and keeping me out of trouble. This morning there was a crazy driver on a 4-lane county road wandering all over the lanes and promising to nail someone due to inattention. I was able to blip the car and get out of her way in a moment (was sure she never saw me).
Be careful with the speed. I am trying to convince myself that going slower means more time in the MINI every day - but is is so much fun to feel the speed that I often get seduced. I have pretty much convinced myself to get a radar detector (never had one before) not because I intend to speed but because of my fear of not realizing how fast I am going and getting trapped.
Have fun with the car and try to share your experiences on the way !!

I just passed the year mark of ownership. I still get cravings to hop into Claire and drive aimlessly around, hoping to get lost. Everytime I drive her it's like the excitement of the first time I drove her, but with the experience that her and I have had that relationship for a year and know each other VERY well.
Don't worry, it never wears off.

I drive a lot and I still feel like pinching myself, realizing I'm driving something so cool! During mundane commutes I'm reminded of that when I see people waving and smiling or kids pointing when I go by. I get a kick out of that.
Year 3 + 4days
I still stare at my car as I approach it from accross the parking lot. I am still in love with my car!

Been MINI-ing since early 2003, on MINIs #3 and #4 now, and I promise you, I STILL look into the garage, longingly, at least once per night!
My wife'll ask "why is the bonnet open?," and I can only say, "no reason. Just looking around in there."

I've been driving mine for 2 and half years now. The love is still there, but it is now a healthier love between a man and his car, not the manic, obsessive "quit looking at me in the garage every 20 minutes" type of crazy love it was when the car was brand spanking new. The change is a gradual one, as any relationship gradually grows and changes. There is no way to pinpoint a moment when it changed. It just evolved is all! Hope that helps!
It is going on 4 years, two MCSs, 40,000 smiles, now and I am still not used to it. I still smile everytime I see it. Walking across a parking lot (because I always park at the far side) is always filled with anticipation of the coming drive.
I still enjoy the stares of others as they look at it. You can meet the nicest people with a MINI, it is a great ice breaker.
But the best part is motoring about in it. No place to go but out and back.

I have been a MINI owner for one month and 4 days and I hope I NEVER get used to it! I am always looking out the window @ work at my parked MINI. I always come up with reasons to walk out to the car when I am @ home...did I leave that in the car?... I love it!
6 months, 1 race and still glowing
--I've had my baby (MCSa) for nearly 6 months now and I still love looking at her, driving her, just sitting in her and making "VROOM VROOM" noises. I love the sound of her supercharger. I love the way she corners. I love the way she pulls away from the pack when I nudge her. I even love that she's a natural monster on the race track. While I couldn't get her to go as fast as she could have gone my friend took her around the track with me in it and we were tailgating 300horsepower monsters.
I love the fact that I can grow into her as a driver in motorsports. I love the fact that she's a civilized beast in the real world and can still haul all my goodies and groceries.
I still jump at every chance I get to drive her. I still pasture park her away from ratty cars and next to more expensive cars if I can.
She's still the hottest car to me on the market. She just makes sense to me. Everyday I learn more things about her and everyday I'm delighted by my surprises. It's a love affair that will probably be lifelong. Boy will my future wife be jealous.

Not over the thrill yet, and don't anticipate ever ending my love affair with MINIs!
Been motoring since August 28, 2002. First MINI had 14K miles on her when I traded her in on Wanda, my current MINI, on April 4, 2003. She has about 54K on the odomoter. I still admire her from the window and get a happy feeling every time I jump in for a ride.
