Exhaust ticking sound under Accel.

Does everyones 05-up MCS make a slight ticking sound under full throttle acceleration starting about 3000 rpms? It almost sounds like an exhaust leak tick, but not quite. I am pretty sure it's just a characteristic of the newer style exhaust, but just want to make sure. I used to have a supercharged mustang that had a custom exhaust that made that sound, it wasn't an exhaust leak, but due to the low restriction and no cat's you could hear the valve train ticking under load.

It's a burble or pop, and it's part of the package. Search "exhause pop" and you'll find more than you want to know about it.

I'm not talking about the burbles when you decelerate and get those small backfire like sounds. I am talking about a distinct ticking sound like valvetrain clatter or fuel injectors. A mechanical ticking sound. It's not overpowering, matter of fact you have to have the windows down and the radio off to hear it. Just want to make sure it's normal and not an actual exhaust leak. For those of you that have ever had an exhaust leak around your exhaust manifold, you'll know what I'm talking about.

Might be something to mention to your dealer if you have time. Maybe they could help you find where the noise is coming from.

Ticking while accelerating? Don't think I've ever heard that out of my 05 MCS. Is it like tickticktickticktick rapidly or sort of an occasional tick?

I've got it with an 05 MCS so your not totally alone...or were both nuts.
It ticks under power you can hear it especially w/ the right window down and next to a wall or curb , something for the sound to resonate off of.

I took it to the dealer and they said they welded up a small exhaust leak.
I'm still hearing something...

I "searched" this on another board and they were saying something about a harmonic dampner? I'm thinking screw it it's under warrenty.

Stuff like this will drive you nuts if your not already there.

After some careful listening and testing, I am pretty sure it is just the fuel injectors ticking under heavy throttle. My mustang had oversized 30lb/hr injectors in it and it ticked like that too. You could hear it good up against walls and things, but not so much anytime else unless the windows were down and you were really listening for it.

Hey there,

Sounds like the same sound my 04 MCS was making - ticking under moderate to heavy aceleration - from the right side - sounded like a baseball card in the spokes of a bike.

Mine was cured by replacing the "vibration damper" -- also called the harmonic balancer. The dealer found that mine was "seperating interally". There are LOTS of posts about this - I mean TONS!!!

Hope this helps.
