I was getting on the freeway today, and right after i left the on ramp, something beeped and a light came on. Having owned the car for three days, I had no clue what it was. Dug up the manual and realized it was the flat tire monitor alert!

Got off the freeway and took a look at the tires, everything looked normal (I guess that's how run-flats work?)... I initialized the system, and 6 hours later the tires still seem ok..

Has this happened to anybody? the manual said that the alert may be activated due to "slippage" ...

On thursday as I was driving back to my office from lunch the DSC and Flat Tire lights turned on and stayed on. It was only a mile or so back to the office, tried flipping the DSC switch and that didn't change anything. When I parked I restarted the car several times with no change. Hopped back in the car about a half hour later and they didn't come back on....

The book says when they come on and stay are they are "defective" and should be inspected by the dealer. Since they hadn't come back on though I didn't worry about it.....

I've not had an issue w/the flat tire monitor giving me any false readings yet.

Something that piqued my interest that my dealer offered as part of their Extended Warranty was a set of tire pressure monitor caps. Knowing that I'd be able to find this item online, I passed on the extended warranty. I did find the exact same item online at here and bought a set as they are very inexpensive.

I can report they do a great job. Just a quick walk around is called for to check that all's well.

hey QBear,
Thanks for the tip! I'm gonna order me a set, they seem incredibly useful, and they're dirt cheap ...

I once managed to trigger my runflat warning in my MC; I think it was due to an excessively heavy right foot and rather slippery road surface
Cleared when I switched off & on again (a concept inspired by Microsoft).

Same thing happened to me today for the first time after 6100 miles. Got home and checked the tire pressure with my digital gauge. Tires went from 37 max to 35. System detected the uneven pressure and alerted me as it was supposed to! Great car and a bonus to tire longevity. Remember to check the source and not just ignore and reset! Drive safe and motor on!!

i hit a pot hole last night that I thought gave me a flat. Upon closer inspection of my 16" runflats this morning I noticed all tired were low on pressure (3 were reading 28 psi and one was at 26psi). I took all the wheels off the car and replaced them with my winter wheels and tires. I inflated all the tires to the correct pressure and will recheck them every hour or so. I hope it was just a low pressure issue

Mine has only falsed once after I rotated the tires.

A reset has fixed it for now.

I've had mine go off twice. First time was a shock to see the warning light and checked my tyres. The pressure was about 32 PSI for all four. The computer reset itself and extinguished the light after twenty to thirty miles od motoring. The second time the warning light came on, when I checked the pressure; the right rear was about 27 PSI.

We have had a big swing in temperatures here this winter and figure the pressure problem to that, because I've not had to add any more air. I have been checking for problems, but have not had any to this point.

What you describe about the tire pressure monitor has happened 4 times to me. Each time there was nothing wrong with the tires. However, each time I went over a large bump in the road and the monitor immediately came on. I just reset it and go on my way (press the reset button). The trick is if you know that it came on after a big bump (immediately after), most likely it's a false reading and after resetting it it does not come on again. However, if you are driving and the monitor sets off, then one should check the tires (or if after reset the monitor comes back on).

As with any monitoring system, you are ultimately the person who knows what may be wrong. These systems are for information only so that one is able to make a better decision. One must sense the context in that the information is given. You are the only one who knows that.

A good example is that my MINI. just weeks after delivery, started to overheat. The fan would not come on. For days I thought that I need to take it to Boston (60 miles away) to get it checked. Then it popped in my head to check the fuse box and sure enough, a 2 dollar fuse was blown. MINI was fixed.

Good luck!

Same thing happened to me...I was driving way too fast (is there such a thing?) when it happened and the road surface I was on was not smooth. Anyway, I pulled over and inspected the tires (everything looked okay) and killed/restarted the car. The reboot theory held true and the light went off. I called the dealership when I got to the office & they just said that the sensor may go off when there is a sudden change in pressure (may not be an extreme change, just a change). No reason to fret if it doesn't happen again (it hasn't). Of course, I checked tire pressure and it was okay.
