Article featuring Mini owners

As I noted about a month ago, I will be writting a monthly Mini column in Roundel and the first column should hit in March. My first article will feature the Mini itself and the next couple articles will feature some common upgrades.

But I really want to feature some Mini owners, so can I get a lead from some of more of our unique owners that I can incorporate into my column. Who wants to be famous???

I am also looking for column ideas... cars, people, events, etc. For example, why did you buy a Mini, what makes us tick, etc.

If you want to read my column, join the BMW CCA and get Roundel for free... tell them you joined because you have a Mini. My contention is that Mini owners will be the fastest growing segment in the Club.

I look forward to your input.

Vince

Well the first thing you should do is correct the oversight I saw in EVERY
SINGLE ARTICLE in the last Roundel and I see it in your message as well.
The classic car is the "Mini". The redesigned car is the "MINI". BMW/MINI
make the distinction in the way they spell it in all of their literature and
Roundel should get it right.

Well, it's certainly not world-shatteering but it is an important
distinction that most everyone on this and other MINI message
boards recognize. I was quite surprised to see an enthusiast
magazine like Roundel get it wrong in multiple articles in the
same edition. The only place I saw it right was in a couple of
vendor ads.

You can rest assured that my first couple articles (Mar-May have already been submitted) will have it wrong... and I own a MCS. You should write an letter to the editor.

I know the official spelling from MINI is MINI, but I feel like I am shouting when I type MINI. I will do what I can, but trust me, the first few articles will be wrong.

You should see if Roundel will pay for you to come out to AMVIV (A MINI Vacation In Vegas) in March. It's one of the bigger MINI events in the US and I'm sure we could get you a ride for the runs. It's also an event that draws many of the hardcore MINI enthusiasts and unique MINIs.
Have a look at www.AMVIV.com

I was just about to say: how about a write up of AMVIV -- when I saw Agro's post. I will be there, along with others from OK and NM heading west in convoy on Thursday before. You could ask for those attending to submit a 200-300 word summary of their experience and then edit, or quote, for an article.
And don't fear -- when you say MINI, you're not shouting, unless you want to say it really loud. I picked up on the distinction quite early on, to the point that my license plate says MINI (upside down, of course!)

149 looks and only a couple ideas... how about we nominate a few of our more unique or favorite people. I have heard that there is not enough MINI (see all caps) coverage in the mag world, so here is our opportunity.

Give me some ideas... you can help drive the direction of the of my column.

BTW, I am following up on the LV idea. Thanks.

My recommendation is the good fellas at whiteroofradio - always tons o'fun. I'd recommend myself but I'm unsure of how many of me there are. Although, as far as I can tell, there are only 2 of us with SB Checkmate JCW's.

While there are certainly some "characters" on NAM, it might appear more egalitarian to do articles on issues and events rather than individuals. These focii allow you to identify individuals as you wish, but are more inclusive of groups of people.
e.g. People who race their MINIs, People who attend MOTD, People who attend AMVIV, People who attend pulley parties.

I'm beginning to wonder if this is a US-specific thing. Every time I see our little cars mentioned in a print publication that's not US-centric, it's "Mini", not "MINI". I've even seen books dedicated to the MINI using "Mini". Weird.
