OK.....I have one , and it is, um, well, trivial: I was sitting tonight in the dark, with engine off, but with the parking lights on, and on the tach of my '04 MC (no nav) the little yellow lines over the numbers on the tach from 0 to 6 are lit up, but not the red lines from 6 1/2 to 8..... the red redline lights do not come on unless the engine is turned on...never noticed that before...see...trivial useless info

Anyone ever notice that the rear right (passanger) window has those lines running vertically through them, like on the rear window for defrosting. I always thought it was a defroster, but I tested it the other day and it didn't work. Is there another way to turn it on? Why would it only be on one side?

That is the Sat. antenna in early models with the NAV system. The base of the roof antenna was later redesigned to accommodate the Sat antennae. I can't remember what year the switch occurred, but seem to think that it was '04.

I believe it is actually the radio antenna that is in the window, and the Sat antenna is inside the "shark fin". My Expedition has the same setup for its radio antenna.

You're 100% correct. I'm so ashamed how quickly I forgot about the beloved shark fin. It seems that I haven't seen one on a MINI in years now. Since I sold Molly (my '02 with NAV), many tidbits of information are evidently fading....

Ok this one comes directly from the observation that my 13 year old daughter has made.
If you have the automatic climate control and you turn the temperature setting past 84 the unit says hello (HI) to you.

Let me re-state that, it may be an 03 thing, I have daytime running lights enabled, if e-brake is on and parking lights on fog lights on, DRL is off and Fog lights on, once I take the E-brake off; DRL on and Fog off. I can't drive with fog only

BTW did you know the DRL is your high beam on at reduced voltage ~50%

This is correct for certain versions of the ECU software available in at least '02 and '03, maybe more. Enabling the DRL's disables use of the fogs only. On my '02 I was able to use fogs only until I had the DRL's enabled. This was changed at some point ('04?) - my '05 lets me use the fogs with my running lights on and the DRL's are enabled.

Perhaps Rally Lights would solve everything.

Heh - that all depends on how the wiring is done for the rally lights. Done by MINI, it is a whole 'nuther set of can/can't do this or that!

I got around this by clicking my e-brake 1 click. Not enough to actually enable my e-brake, by enough to turn my DRLs off and use my fogs when I drive. Try it out! You need to have your parking lights on though...

Oh, and about the lines on the rear passenger window... I do have the shark fin for my NAV as well. I though that was both NAV / radio antenna. Window radio antenna you say? Oh those Germans...

I think it's supposed to hold sunglasses, although mine don't fit particularly well.

HUH????? Mine work just fine without the key in the ignition. But the aux or engine does have to be on. But the key/fob do not have to be in the ignition.
Better check this out.
It's pretty typical for some functions not to work without the key. Brake lights, horns, etc. The MINI requires the engine to be ON in order to program the various functions.

(Revised--forgot the pre-R56 can't be owner-programmed. Haven't a clue whether the engine has to be on for programming on 1st gen cars.)

Finally finished reading over 1100 posts.
I wish I had finished lastnight.
It was this afternoon that I tried pulling up the rear seats using the latch hole and sliced my finger wide open!
Didn't read not to do that until tonight.

Hi

I am new on this forum.
I too have read so many posts on this thread (my personal favorite) I might just have to spend several days just sitting in my MINI. What could be better? driving my MINI!!
anyway I hope I am on the right thread. I put air in my tires...regular not run-flats when the orange light on the speedo started blinking. They are fine according to my tire pressure gauge but the light keeps blinking. Is this something I have to have fixed by a professional or is a do it myself thing?

Thanks in advance

Miniturtlede

I have an R56, so there might be a difference, but I don't think so. There is a company that makes velcro'd straps that stick on the seat backs as "pulls." I think this is the cheapest brand (I've seen them much higher):

http://www.gominigo.com/back-straps.html

They work very well, and certainly do the job better than using the latch hole!

Sounds like your traction control light...versus the Tire pressure light, I'm not sure, but the tire pressure light will stay on steady if there were a problem. Every time your traction control needs to "assist" that othe light flashes.

If you can describe the icon in the orange light, we'd be able to help more.

Did it resemble one of these?
