R50/53 Things You Didn't Know About Your MINI
I never noticed mine chime. I have on Late '02 built '03 MC w/ Nav (includes OBC). It chimes when I go over a certain speed, which I can set, but not temp. Im in Kansas where it been 20 degrees all week, except for the last 2 days of pure 62 degree bliss!
Some people--like me--have only experienced the chime AT 37 degrees, while driving, and others say their car chimes both at 37 and at temperatures below that point when they start up.
It's a BMW thing--our '01 BMWs chime; don't know what year this started.

I think its only w/ the Nav. You can set it to chime when you're breakin the law. I set it to 80mph... It too easy to speed in tha Coopa.
IIRC, the temp chime is a dealer configurable option. It just happens to be turned on by default. So if your car doesn't chime, the option must have been turned off at some point.
Similarly (IIRC), there is a also a low fuel chime option (in addition to the blinking light) that is generally off by default.

Does the dealer have to turn this on, or can we do it ?
Going to the dealer will charge you 100 bucks to program, so make sure you have any and all reprograms figured out ahead of time. They also deprogramed a few options that MINI "outdated". The speed wipers work different now (worse in MHO), the doorlock up in side the cabin no longer opens the windows and sunroon, and I can no longer turn my fogs on without the headlights being on....
Theres a give and take when updating programs, so if you have an older mini, make sure a little "chime" is worth screwing up a bunch of other stuff.

really? I swear I have - but maybe it was 3rd gear (there's a town in NJ we go to often where a 7 mile stretch is a patrolled 25mph! zone and cruise can save your butt there)
Seven miles! Yikes--I'd move! Whatever is so important that they are protecting it this way? Or is this 100% of the town's income?
In Texas they've finally made a law that town income can't be over a certain amount (can't remember what) "earned" from tickets. There were several around here that were...not pleased.

As a new and first time mini owner, I found a lot of this really interesting.
Great work and thanks to all!
I also have found that like owning a jeep (cj,Yj,Tj) owning a mini is a very special cult status, that to own one is the only way to understand the passion behind the vehicles owner.

look at the 55 56 57 chevy's. they had a chrome trim that popped out when ever you opened the door with the window up and it closed when the door closed. it was spring loaded, pretty kewl none the less.
VERY expensive, and prone to break down at inopportune moments. Only known service departments are "Tiffany's" and "Kate Spade". have the odd side-effect of causing you to be late to just about anything.

If you press and hold the open button onthe key fob, the windows and roof will open for as long as the button is kept pressed. If the brake light comes of for low pads, the ligth does not reset after new pads are installed. Simple turn the key to the on position then wait 10-15 seconds and the light will reset. The oil change reminder light can be reset through the dashboard without any tools. All Cooper side view mirors have the heater element even if the car does not have the option. If your cooper has climate control, the servo motors can be calibrated through the control panel.Using an OBD scan tool to look at mode$06 data you can tell if an oxygen sensor, evap leak, catalyst or thermostat is about to fail, before any error codes are generated.
