I never realised that, firemerc13. I figured they were just another one of those annoying CYA anti-litigation safety overkill things. I'll see them differently now. Still ugly, but with a purpose.

Stay safe out there.

Well, it's done in my car. Don't see an airbag killing someone, but I'm not the trained professional.

Also figure, if it reqiurres a firefighter to get me out, all airbags have deployed already, and or I'm dead

Have you ever seen an airbag go off? Airbags are computer controlled and we all know computers never malfunction. You would be suprised how many accidents don't have airbag deployment, or delayed deployment. Most departments require someone to hold spinal stabilization until the patient is properly secured to a backboard. This is usually done by either reaching thru the windows, right where the tags are located, or crawling into the car. With the thousands of different models and trim packages it is impossible to know what a vehicle has or doesn't. If aftermarket seat covers have them, then maybe they are more than just an ugly tag.

Exactly what happened to me. When I crashed my mini I smashed in the front end before rolling it and no air bags deployed. Firefighters had to climb in and pull me out as I broke several vertebrae and damaged discs. Those guys me, if those tags helped them safely help me so be it I say

No arguments, please in this glorious thread. Lets keep the cheap mods going and just put our differences aside.

Spay paint your OEM coolant overflow tank with high heat resistant paint. Thinking this will keep mine from cracking! Total cost, $4' and you still have a ton of paint left.

I was thinking about something basically on the lines of this, but I was thinking of using that "sealing" spray paint stuff. Darn - I wish I could remember the name of that stuff at the moment. It's supposed to expand / seal any cracks. So pre-spraying our tanks should stop that whole "issue" from ever happening - there at least.

I can also do classic white/black and black/white. Hey, "S" owners where is your reverse located?

I wonder if there is a market for these.
i would buy one in just black blank

I side-swiped a curb, and the side airbags went off! Just a glancing blow, but hit at a drainage inlet, so enough "bang" to set off.

Tossed in some FREE (my favorite 4 letters) LED lighting. I work for a furniture based lighting company and these were leftovers.

First was a small recessed puck light that fit perfectly into that vent thing.

Side by side of the footwells. Nice LED cool white goodness vs. crappy halogen. Keep in mind cooler whites look brighter than they are...lighting is all about contrast!

unfortunately I took the pics 5 minutes before vacuuming the floors :(

What is that vent? I have an R55 and I don't have anything like that.

I have no idea what it is. Actually it's the panel for the ultrasonic burglar alarm. At least that's what Realoem says, numbers 3,4,5. I don't have an alarm in the car but it was a nice flat surface to install that light in.

I love this thread--it reminds me of my dad in his prime. Always had a workaround since raising three kids on one income didn't leave a lot spare car cash.

He could fix or improve anything. Parkinsons has taken that from him.

Please keep sharing!

I actually like it, sort of fits the character of the car. Keep going, maybe do the A panels or mirrors or something.

I've seen it done before and I was never a fan, looks good here, but wouldn't do it to my car.

Very cool! As long as my husband drives the car, I wouldn't do this. Just me? I'd seriously consider it.

I love the creativity on this board.

Thank you. Maybe you could try some union jacks or flags or something..

I'm a husband tell him to lighten up maybe if you put them on he won't drive it.. sounds like a + no?

I put a couple stickers on over it and they blend right in.. the car and mods are just for fun, like life it isn't permanent

Cool idea. It works on a white car. It adds some color.

Hey, now there's a thought! So sorry, honey that my car embarrasses you...

Let's just say he's a very serious person and has to wear a uniform everyday. I'd rather not have to put him in the position to explain why he has Hello Kitty on his car!

Maybe if I ever score a beater just to haul pets and stuff I'll mod it.

Saw this thread and am now trying to revive it! I have 1 mod not seen yet, and two I have gotten from this thread.

1.) I got some "gauges" from WalMart for ~$5.00. I really like the gauges people use but I don't want to spend the money and wouldn't know how to install them. My brother has a Toyota FJ Cruiser, and he has some gauges that these kind of model.

2.) I saw the velcro patches and remembered I had some "SWAT" velcro stickers from my little brothers old airsoft vest. Now I actually want to join law enforcement, so I didn't just buy some random swat patches cause they look cool.

3.) This is kinda custom/ kinda from this thread. I saw the checkered pieces in the cup holder so I printed the Liquid Yellow Club Logo and surrounded it with liquid yellow, cut it out and taped that to a circular piece of cardboard. I then covered this with a plastic bag (cut to size) to protect from liquid.

I will end up making a video of these mods, so stay tuned to my YouTube to see these in better quality!
