MINI encounters on trips

For the long thanksgiving weekend I drove up to Philadelphia to visit friends and check out my old stomping ground. I was well prepared for the trip in terms of what I really needed plus I had my MINI messaging kit ready (including a few home made MINI messages) so I could possibly communicate with other MINIs. But neither on the way up nor on the way back did I see a single MINI 'on the road'. On the way up, when I pulled over in the middle of nowhere to fill up my tank I saw another nicely set up Cooper S sitting at the same gas station, one pump behind. It turned out to be NAM motorer eMINI who was on his way from Charlotte, NC to Lebanon, PA for the holidays. We had a brief chat and even entertained a guy with an orange metallic import. But that was it, no other MINI. On the way back I saw a red one abandoned on I-40 at about mile marker 405, but nothing else. Then I realized that I rarely ever come up on another MINI from behind, nor does another one come up on me. Is it possible that we don't catch up to eachother because we all drive about the same pace? :-) Cheers, H

That would explain it! In the year since I got mine I've driven to events at Road America once and Mid Ohio twice. I see zero to maybe three MINIs while on the road and dozens at the event. Your theory holds water.

I passed two this morning on Route 128 around exit 43 this morning. One looked to be a silvery blue colored MC the other was a dark blue MC I believe.

I find it funny that I now park at home next to an MCc and a normal MC.

I drive up to Boston from Baltimore a lot and have no problems passing a few MINIs.

I followed a BRG mini on my way to the DCMM Tate Breakfast.

I have awesome MINIdar... i can literally spot one when it's just a little speck a mile ahead. Of course, i go no more than 5-7 miles over the speed limit at all times (unless i'm following a group of minis, you speed demons, you)

Last year I drove from Nashville, TN to Atlanta, GA to Orlando, Fl, back through Alabama to Nashville. A couple thousand miles over two weeks and saw no more than 3 or 4 MINIs.

I just got back from 2 weeks in Hawaii, 1 week on Maui and 1 week on the big island of Hawaii. I never went a day without seeing 1 or 2 MINIs, and never the same ones.

So congratulations to the state of Hawaii for having a good number of MINIs for their area.

Bill

Of course, your not talking about doing 100 MPH on a public road ... your on a private road, since excessive speed on public thoroughfares is not an acceptable topic on the forum? Especially "racing".

Exactly. No problem with "common" speeding, but excessive speed (anything you're risking a set of cuffs over) and street racing are prohibited by the site guidelines.

???? I talked about cruising at traveling speeds where you typically always pass or get passed by some cars. How did speeding come up? Hmmm? H

When we took Magoo to the mountains of Western N.C., we drove on the interstate and back roads (since I was still in breakin period). We did not see any on the interstate only on the back roads. I have concluded that most MINI owners enjoy motoring, and interstate driving is just that... driving. The fun part comes on roads off the interstate.

So my theory is "Interstates are for driving, back roads are for motoring. Interstates are for them and back roads are for us." If you want to see MINI's visit the back roads. After all, we go to the Dragon on US 129, not on I-40.

It wasn't you, Moskito...read up the page.

On my annual springtime cross-country roadtrip, once I was out of California, I never saw another MINI on the highways until after meeting up with YuccaPatrol (in Albuquerque), when we got to Birmingham, Alabama!

And on the drive home on this same journey (from New Orleans), with hubby, we saw a Pure Silver Cooper in Texas, also westbound. We stopped in Tucson for a day or so and when we hopped back on the highway, we saw the same Pure Silver Cooper from Texas! We grinned and waved at each other....so much fun!

I have been visiting St. Louis, and where are the MINIs?

I have seen 2 Coopers in the last week... They must be hiding...

Hmmmmm...... Let's see...

"I-40 mile marker 405".

Sure could use a "hanger queen".

(Okay, you had to be in Army Aviation - or the Air Farce - to know what I'm talking about... )

My wife says I'm like The Short Bus: I can spot a MINI miles away. If there's one around, I will almost always spot it.

In October we took a road trip with family from Europe from our home in Swampeast Misery (aka Southeast Missouri) to St Louis, then to central Indiana, and back home. Round trip was between 900 and 1000 miles over 6 days. During the entire trip, we saw only TWO MINI's! One (MCS EB/B with black bonnet stripes)was parked at the Missouri Botanical Gardens in St Louis, and the other one(MC PS/W) was driving in front of us just outside Noblesville, IN. This driver waved and honked at us when she turned off. I expected to see more MINI's on a trip that long.

Well, in Philly and the Suburbs itself I saw lots of MINIs in all colours and versions on the roads and in parking lots, plus looking at Main Line Mini dealer lot looked like they had lots in stock. Herbert

last weekend I was in the Upper West Side (of Manhattan) looking for a spot on the street and in a period of about 20min I must have seen 7 or 8 Mini's between 95th and 85th!

BTW... had dinner for my cousin's B-Day at "Carmine's"! Great place for a large group.

Since I've gotten the MINI I litterally have tried to "hunt down" fellow MINI's to wave and say "Sweet ride" or something tacky like that but it has been almost futile.
I've only seen 2 and one driver either thought I was nuts or had no idea who the hell was waving at her or why . Oh well, I do have my first local MINI club meeting this Thursday (3 more sleeps!!) and am SOOO excited to check out some other local cars!
I'm getting married in January and the initial plan was to honeymoon in Vegas or Disney but we are seriously considering a road trip or maybe even something like MINI's on Top! It's an illness....and I got the bug for MINI BAD!
