My 05 S is my "fun" second car. I traded an 87 911 Coupe to get it.

Not a trade exactly, but we got the MCS and then sold the E46 Dinan 3 a several months later

It really was meant as a replacement though so it qualifies

Between the two of us we've had a few bimmers...

When I showed up with my BMW MCoupe to order my Cooper S, a Motoring Advisor said "Please don't tell me that you are trading in your MCoupe, You should never get rid of it."
But that was never the plan anyway.

If you ask me, the MINI is the best BMW you can buy these days.

2006 MCS joined 2003 M3 coupe. I plan to write a comparison in the next week or so after 3 weeks of MINI ownership. Had a 330I before the M.

sold my 1991 bimmer

didn't trade in, as dealer would have only given me small money, but sold my 1991 e30 318iS (at 188k and best car I've owned but would need a restore if kept past 200k) and bought the MINI...Test drove e46's but found they were a bit too luxury and frankly think they need a diet plan, plus the price point of a 330 made a basic Coop S with JCW seem reasonable (<$30k considering
performance.. Also, can't get a new bimmer (except ?? M3) with LSD....

Love the MINI, and it feels/drives much like an E30 Bmw (1984-1991 in USA)... just wish it were RWD.... but you can't have it all

Coming from an e30, I'm 20,000 miles in on the MCS and still not used to FWD. I think if I tighten up the rear by putting on a swaybar it will behave more like I'm used to.

Does an E30 engine fire count as "trading to a MINI?" If yes, then count me in.

I think I qualify. Picked up current MINI in Dec of 03. Wife stole it in March of 04. She demanded a 325i in ransom. Picked up new 325i in May of 04. She returned the MINI to me. So, I traded a MINI for a 325i. It's nice, and she loves it. But I think we should have gotten a G35. The extra 100 hp would be fun.

You didn't think the '87 Carrera was fun???

I had an '86 Carrera and, for me, it was one of the best sports cars I've ever owned.

I agree, I loved my 87. But my situation changed. I'm in northern New England and needed a car I could drive 12 mths a year. My other car is going to my son. So the Porsche had to go unfortunately. And I was getting a bit tired of the maintenance costs. I know that goes with the territory, but it was starting to get out of hand.
