iPod adaptor on backorder?

Has anyone else run into this? I'm scheduled to pick up my '06 PW/B MCS tomorrow morning. I was told that it would not have the Ipod adaptor installed since they are on backorder and that when they come in I can bring it back to be installed. Should I wait for the MINI one or can I get the same thing from an electronics place? I guess if I wait for the MINI one it will be covered under warranty.

Spoke with BMW here in Germany and was told that they are changing the IPOD adapter and that they were hoping for a release in early 06. My understanding is that it is going to be a lot like the Icelink plus. For me, I just bought the icelink plus and it works great.

I picked my car up in early November and they said the iPod adapters were backordered. Luckily, when the car arrived at the dealer in early October, they'd installed one so I got mine. They must have run out some time in late October. It's not that impressive, so maybe if they are coming out with a new one it's all for the better for you.

I picked up the part a few weeks ago and have been just waiting for time to install it. If they are coming out with a new version I might have to hold off and wait for it.

The rumour I have heard is that the new one WILL include ID3 text support. So I would definitely hold off.

I have the current Apple/MINI version, and as much as I love it and it has been fairly problem free, I would switch it out in a heartbeat if the new one has the text.

hmm

so what is the text about? I'm just hooking mine up to the H/K system, no nav screen or anything so I wouldn't benefit from text, right?

Yeah - you might want to hold off 'til the next generation comes out.

I've had the iPod adapter for about 6 months and I've gone through 2 of them already. The first one blew, and took my stock head unit with it and now the second one just stopped working (will be going into the dealer for a replacement this coming monday).

Anyone else have these problems?

I never understood why MINI never offered the ID Text support from the get go....

Anyway, I also have the OEM MINI/Apple iPod adaptor installed in my '05 MCS and it works flawlessly with my 4GB Apple Nano iPod and H/K factory stereo.

The only caveat I have with this otherwise clean and transparent integration, is the lack of text support in the stereo display. This feature is specially missed when you have large song playlists loaded.

For those of us that already have the OEM iPod adaptor, can we expect to have text support enabled via a firmware update? It seems to me this is a limitation in the current firmware and not the actual hardware, but I could be wrong.

I am going to inquiry a little further about this updated OEM adaptor as I am too really, really wanting to have ID text support.

Annette,

Text would display across your headunit. If you have NAV, it displays across both (at least with the Icelink Plus). So, yes, you would benefit from it.
