Wow... beautiful!! That silver does look really nice with the red. I'd love to see more pics, too. (still trying to decide what to do with the roof/bonnet stripes of my SR )

Jimbo, I think Solar Red/Silver is a gorgeous color combo. If I were today to replace my PW/B '02 Cooper with a new '06 MC, this would be a very nice alternative. To me Solar Red is an acceptable successor to Velvet Red metallic, which was one of our original choices back in 2002, but we ended up going with PW instead.

Did you order the Piano dash trim?

I'll have my Solar Red / Silver MC with the Piano Black dash in about two weeks. :impatient :impatient :impatient :impatient :impatient :impatient

Expect to see *a lot* of Solar Red photos in the coming months after that.

If I were ordering a MINI today, it'd be a another Cooper and it'd be SR/S. Gorgeous.

No, I stayed with the Silver, my thinking being it would go better with the Space Grey cloth seats and also give a more "open" feeling to the interior .

Seems like everyone who is ordering a SR is getting the silver roof. I wasn't crazy about the shape of the silver bonnet stripe, and I like red/black/white so I went with the red roof (around the sunroof), with the idea of checkering the sunroof/roof and having black and white bonnet stripes. Am I crazy? I haven't seen silver in person and not too many pics of the SR.. are the silver roofs that incredible looking? Will my MINI look goofy going with black/white accents instead of silver?

I contemplated doing SR/SR, because like you say a lot of SR MINIs will have the Silver roof. Too bad MINI didn't allow people to also order white and black roofs. IMO, SR/SR should naturally lend itself to the white/black graphics.

Not to worry, your MINI will look fantastic!!! The higher contrast scheme will look very sharp/crisp.

Keep in mind, by going to a black or white roof you will be mixing a metallic paint(Solar Red) and a non-metallic paint(black or white) which is the only reason I can think of why MINI does not allow you to make that combination selection

I still haven't figured out why they make you get the spoiler when you order a Silver Roof , don't like it...don't like it !

I thought about that too, but we've been able to get metallic colors (dark silver, BRG, PS) all with the non metallic roof colors up until this point.

yeah, didn't want the MC spoiler either. Now if I want to go spoilerless I'd have to pay a shop to remove the spoiler, plug the holes, and repaint the hatch. Plus we've already had to pay the $150 for the freakin spoiler.

Thanks for making me feel better about it. This is just such an important decision for me! After years of driving minivans (which we're keeping for those times we'll need it, so I'll still have to drive it now and then, ugh), I'm so excited to be getting a car that I really WANT and LOVE. I would hate to get the car of my dreams and find out that I made a really terrible color choice that messed up how it looks.

Now, if I can just figure out what to do about the roof, I'll be all set.

wow, it goes to show you that you have to either see real pictures or see the car itself to get a good idea about colors. i use miniusa.com when i build my car and never considered solar red until seeing this picture.

For those who missed it, the following thread on Mini2 had links to some photos of Solar Red: http://www.mini2.com/forum/showthread.php?t=101172. These are the exterior shots of the Seven Edition MINI One:

There were no solar reds at my dealer this weekend. I was curious to see it too.

Does anyone think the factory might start doing the MCS in Solar Red later in the 06 model year?

I haven't seen anything indicating Solar Red is going to be a late '06 MCS color.

So far the best photos appear to be the ones from Buzzy. This latest batch look impropperly exposed to show the true color (at least I hope they were :impatient ).

I'll post pictures of my SR/S MC soon. It's due into port on Tuesday. :impatient
