R50/53 High pitch whistle
High pitch whistle
Does anyone else get an extremely high pitched whistle in your Mini when you have the windows down a little? It seems to come from the back of the car and would drive a dog crazy.
I'm so glad I'm not the only one that hears this. My husband thinks I'm bonkers.
I usually hear it at speeds over 65 and it doesn't seem to matter if the
windows are up or down.
I have made sure the gasket trim is in place all around the boot, it still happens. Even thought it might be coming from the took-kit, maybe its' metal on metal vibration?? Took the wrench out of the kit, still happens.
The tech at the dealership couldn't hear it even when I pointed it out to him.
This might sound weird, but I've heard that women have more sensitive hearing at higher pitches.

No, but I do hear a high pitched whistling noise right at around 105mph. The noise is almost horn like. Doesn't happen all of the time, but more often than not. I think it may be one of the shields underneath the car. Anyone else ever experience this?
got roof racks?
--My MCSa whistles at anything above 30mph through its roof racks. It's kind of a soft whistle though. Maybe your dealer installed a free deer whistle unbeknownst to you.

Are we talking about a whistle caused by the throttle body on a MCSa? IF so your not alone. NewYorkcityMINI and I have taken our cars in for this very reason. For no fix is currently known.
If its a whistle cause by the A/C recirculate on then thats another problem. I don't know if there is a fix for this.

I've read a couple of threads on nam and mini2 that its the air vent in the center that does it, this is not window related like some other cases people talked about.
Good thing I read about it too, scared me a little the first time I heard it, but since I knew what it was, I wasn't really bothered. Oh, if you go beyond 105mph it disappears.

that is correct. BTW, are you openning your windows and listening weird noises when driving over 105mph? That is strange. Maybe the noise stays there but you focus on something else after 105mph? heh heh heeeeee. Strange but true, I hear it between 85-105 and after it goes away.
105mph=174km/h
105mph=174km/h

I just posted this very same question at the vary same speed, Did you find any fix?
yes this is true. because their ***** actually reflect extra sound waves towards their ears resulting in a more sensitive hearing to a higher pitch. kind of like an elephant ear
