I just want to say, I can not get over how well this car handles. I just don't see these tires lasting very long One other thing does anyone know where I can get some amber bulbs for my fog lights. Anyone in the Portland/ Washington area know of a parts store that carries them and someone who carries an oil filter for the Mini?

Mine lasted less than 2 months...the runflats are atrocious....lol!
Seriously...the Yoko's make a huge difference in handling in my MCS...

the Pirelli's on the 17's have a relatively low treadlife rating, which means they're pretty sticky to begin with (and wear fast). Since the MINI's handle so well, the treadwear is only amplified

just like tire-smoking musclecars, MINI's need their own tire-budget!

Greetings,
Just picked our Cooper S Saturday (see New Baby Arrives) and yes the handling is awesome. I am hoping because of the superior balance of the MINI the tires might last a little longer. I once had the older style Mazda Pick Up and tires would honestly last 50K+ miles - the truck had great balance. On the other hand I had a Nissan Frontier and you couldn't get a set of tires to last 35K. Of course, aggressive motoring is also a deciding factor. I am inclined to Yokos after the run flats are toast. Happy Motoring!
Kind Regards,
Ron

i agree.
i think the first upgrade i make will be to get rid of the run-flats.
i'm not worried about flat's, i just got a cell to keep in the car!

Well, everyone's talking about their tires, and no one's answered your other questions (short attention span theatre  )

Amber bulbs...for the front, or for the dead sockets in the rear (which some folks have managed to make live)? Why do you want amber bulbs in your fog lights? Doesn't seem that they'd work particularly well with amber light.

Oil filter...see other threads on oil changing. But the short answer is that the filter is only currently available from MINI dealers (about $12.00), and not even BMW dealers. Rumor is that it an aftermarket Purolator will be available soon.

OK, back to talking about our tires...

Welcome to ownership bliss Yellowdesmo!

Where exactly are you in the Portland/Vancouver metro area? If you like group drives, fun events and celebrating the MINI ownership you should check out the local MINI club, http://www.pdxmini.org . We are having a meeting this Sunday the 9th at Shanghai Noble House on Macadam. If you are interested in attending, just drop me a line and I'll get you more specific info. ryan@pdxmini.org

As for the fog lamps...there is a thread around here somewhere with the bulb type specs...but I can't find it for the life of me. My personal suggestion would be to contact George at MINI-Madness webmail@mini-madness.com. He sells the amber colored Stone-Guard and is located in NW Portland (Bethany). I've seen it used for the rally lights and the fog/driving lights. This way you could keep the stock bulbs and just use the film to color the outter housing, and also give it protection from rocks. Seems like the best idea to me. No need to have to take apart the front end to change the bulbs either.

Would look like this:

Thank you all for the info.

Davbret,
I would like to go to one of your meetings. Do you all meet at one place and then go for a group drive?
