Top heavy feeling

I've only had my MCSc for 9 days now. I love the way that I can scoot in and out of traffic, but I've got this feeling when I'm powering through a corner that the car is top heavy. I don't know if it is just becaue I'm not used to it yet or because it really is. I suspect it is me. I traded an Audi TT roadster for it and of course it was a little lower to the road.

Opinons?

Scotsman, I think it really IS because of your "conditioning"...

Just take a couple of those circular entrance ramps at about 35mph faster than the yellow "recommended speed" sign. Repeat until you're convinced that the "S" in MCSc really stands for "STICKY"!! . You'll be fine in no time.

Congrats on the new ride,
Tatt

I'm pretty sure the feeling is just the fact that you sit pretty high in the MINI. I'm also 6'4" and when i get out of the Insight and into the MINI, it feels like I'm sitting very high. Then I take a corner way too fast and there's absolutely no roll (I have an H-Sport comp ). I really do wish MINI would have lowered the driving position but they did have to keep a little of the old Mini's high bucket seats.

I felt exactly the same way and am still working on reconditioning myself from lower rear wheel drive bimmers. The more you try it and feel out physics/limits the confidence grows. I'm thinking that a good car control clinic would help things along. (I have a hard top MCS and am not tall fyi, so I don't think its just those factors, you are simply used to somthing different.)

I don't think the Mini is the best flat out cornering design. It is a fun car. It is fun at reasonable (if not legal) speeds. It must be driven even though it could have been designed to be more self contained. It could have a lower center of gravity, a larger engine, more speed and competance . . . but then what fun could it be at under 100 mph.

As for being top heavy, have you had recent breast surgery?

Sounds like you're just accustomed to a lower center of gravity. Give it a few hundred more miles and you'll get comfortable.

If not, you may want to check your turn-in technique. Is it possible that you are moving the steering wheel too quickly when you first turn in to the corner? That would contribute to a top-heavy feeling. Try bending the car into the corner to transfer the weight more slowly.

Happy motoring

How'd you like the Audi? I saw a beautiful green Audi TT roadster the other day and was thinking I'd love to get my wife one of those. That is, if I had any money.

I really enjoyed it. My only problem was with AudiUSA. For owning that expensive a car, they sure don't try to make the customers happy. I had a couple of VERY MINOR problems and they couldn't fix it. They have repair points and dealers. NEVER let a repair point work on an Audi!!!!

Thanks for all the answers everyone. I do think it is because I'm not used to being this high. The MINI is a lot easier for my bad knees to get in and out of than the Audi was for sure. The only things that I miss from the TT are the leather seats and the auto up on the windows. This one is more fun and gets better MPG. I also love the electric top. Now I don't have to get out of the car to put it up!!!!!
